I'll ask Zack the same question I asked @abigaillmartin's Ernest: Does the arm have any special capabilities/augmentations? Super strength? Laser fingers?

Ugh I wish! I've been trying to figure out a way for something like that to work, but it puts too must stress on the battery.
Then again, I'm happy I actually managed to get a sense of touch in the fingers. The one I got originally was a piece of trash! Took me a long time to tweak and upgrade it to a workable state. I have to thank Ky for that too though, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have had so mach great gear and material to work with!

You weren't lying when you said you were binge reading Trespasser!
Thank you so much btw, glad you are enjoying it

What you do you call your homeworld/planet?
And what's the name of those four-armed aliens?

Oh a scienc-y question, that's for Zack to answer haha.

The Forebears only ever gave our planet a classification; n-084/T. We guess they never meant for it to be a properly colonised world for civilian settlements, hence why it never got a name in their records. But we've come to call it Norbant.

The green people with the 4 arms belong to a species called 'Vierachtige'.

The mechanic/gearhead in me is already thinking of ways around the battery problem....

...I know! I know! Kinetic generators that charge the batteries through the natural movements of Zack's body (similar to the old self-winding watches). The generators could be embedded into his clothes! Perhaps, to augment the batteries, a supercapacitor that can deliver its full charge instantaneously, instead of over time like a battery. This could power a laser weapon (defensive, of course, I know Zack is not an aggressor) enough for a quick, single jolt, or it could provide a boost to the motors for a very brief "super strength".

Yeah, I know, I'm putting way too much thought into this.

I appreciate the thought put into, but I have to admit that the real reason his arm doesn't have special augementations is because I don't want it to haha.

I do have a moment in Ch04 where I play with minor augmentations to the prostethics, but nothing too extreme. I wanna keep a certain level of groundedness (especially to contrast against the fantastical elements introduced in Ch02 with the glowing gems found in the cave underneath the old mine)

Oh, I can fully understand that. You've got in your mind what Zack is and what he's capable of, and giving him a "super arm" would upset that. He's better off putting his mind to work hacking technology and making it work for himself and Kyara (ie, Blip).

But the gears in my mind are always turning, and they're always gonna turn...

And I am not one to stop the gears from moving.

But as you said, I have a picture in my mind. Were we having this conversation in 2018, oh boy, I would join in on the spot, taking notes as we went. But seeing as I am currenly in the process of scripting the 4th, penultimate, chapter of the story (actually working on the 1st big rewrite of it!) I am long past the brainstorming stage haha.

Where did Zack learn about gadgets/machines?

What was Kyara's first scrapping/adventure like?

How did you both get adopted by Nan?

I picked up my skills working from a young age at my old caretaker's factory. It produced a lot of different machines and tools for the people of Oasis, and I got to work on almost all of them at one point or another.

My first adventure was back in my old SenSec days. I was sent on a mission to retrieve an artifact.

Actually she snuck out at night because she overheard her superiors talking about losing an artifact during a battle against a bunch of bandits.

Anywaaay... I went to the site of an old decaying battleship and made my way in. Found the artifact and the bandits. They came back looking for the artifact as well. But skilled as I am, I beat them and made it back before morning with the artifact.

By beat them you mean, got captured?

A minor detail to the story. I did escape their grasp after all!

Because the cruiser was so unstable it fell apart and they lost hold of you.

What can I say, I have luck on my side :smirk:

Urgh :unamused:

That one is classified, it will be told in the comic at the right time

On a side note, Kyara's first adventure might make a fun Trespasser short
I actually toyed with the idea of making a prequel story (also a sequel and a spin-off) back when I was barely halfway through drawing Chapter 01 :joy:
Even made a concept cover for it haha

Her initial character design draws inpiration from Star Wars, Avatar (both cartoon series) and a dash of Final Fantasy. With the original artsyle being based on the rounder character designs series like Gravity Falls and Star vs the Forces of evil. When I moved from the original animated version of her design to the current comic version, I added a bit of Legend of Zelda to the pool of inspiration, and going for a more angular artstyle, inspired by a slew of artists I follow.

For her personality, I have always liked the sort of stubborn and impulsive type characters with a heart of gold. Characters like Fullmetal Alchemist's Edward Elric for example, and this is my version of such a character.

The evolution of her design, starting with a first idea back in 2015, to the animated version in 2016, the comic version in 2020 and the design she will evolve into on her journey (sketch from 2022).

Which sibling is the uglier one? (I'm asking just to cause chaos.)

Sorry I didn't check how long ago this was posted.

They met on the job. Kyara used to be a member of SenSec and ran security at the factory where Zack worked the assembly line. There they became best friends.
