Launching a webtoon with Mature Content

I recently just launched my web comic on webtoon and I guess I'm becoming anxious about subscriptions/ being illegible for contests. Have I shot myself in the foot for giving the story mature content? I've censored things, at this point the story just has quite a bit of swearing in the dialogue.

the answer to your question might be yes if you want a huge following quickly. I have mature things in my comic Blunderland here on tapas and I have had to stay cool about the subs and say they will come in time. a lot depends on the story content. swearing is not a huge thing but some are put off by it (although the word Cu*t seems to be really offensive in the states) nudity and sex are down to personal preference.
my comic is not only set in two realms but also the time zone in earth realm is set in an older time ( when i was young) and it has some physical punishment in the early chapters, this was putting people off so i have phased it out mostly. all you can do is wait and see what happens. good luck with your venture.

Not entirely because there is a Mature Content audience (a bit more on Tapas than on Webtoons). However, it depends on how you handle that Mature Content.

Is your content actually there to drive the story? Or is some of it there for shock value? Can you omit some of the Mature Content and still be able to tell a story?

I'm in the same both as you because I'm working on a webcomic series that will have Mature Content. However, it will drive the story forward, and I won't show anything too far. There are some threads talking about "What's Too Much?" or "What's considered not ok", and I think this recent one gives better details o it:

I wanna know what is considered to be "Mature" because I just updated my comic and wondered whether I should filter it Mature Content or no, I did just in case! I write a comic with mature content and it's just fine! Mainly because all the mature content is very important to the plot and is handled in a kind of stylish way - any sexual or violent scenes are necessary and creatively done and I'm extra careful that the atmosphere is all appropriate to what's going on. Any profanity is also pretty natural - not too much, but it makes sense in context.

So long as you handle it well it's fine. You can tag any particularly intense pages as mature so that readers have a warning.

It depends on the audience you're trying to bring in. If you want a mature audience, then you would more likely have mature content. I, myself, have a comic that is completely mature. Mostly because I want a mature audience.

I think overall, you attract the kinda audience you wrote it for. I know I've seen other people express that they wish there were more mature stories and they feel like they're being patronized sometimes with what feels like childish or watered down versions of the content they know that's supposed to be there.

I dont think it's a dealbreaker for most readers.

My Webtoon has mature content, but it's mostly language and violence, and I haven't gotten to the really violent stuff yet. The language doesnt seem to be too much of a barrier for my situation, but i'm not sure how much that will be affected by the violence. To me, I'm not a fan of extreme sexual content, but I wonder how large the audience is that is off-put by graphic violence.

I guess its just a wait and see thing.

Man, if you ever feel nervous about posting mature content just look at Webtoon's premium comic 'Darbi'. (I've been curious about whether this one will qualify for ad revenue or not) There's always an audience for that kind of stuff, also swearing is pretty vanilla for the mature tag, and most people wouldn't care too much unless it's used excessively.
