Let's chat about AUs

First of all, I know there's been a thread about this already, but it was quite old and I don't know how ok it is to ramble in a thread from 2016 all of the sudden x'D so I decided to go make another one and see what other people who may not have seen the old one have done <3

I'm very, very fond of AUs (Alternative Universes). I think it's not obvious enough yet, but, seriously, I love them.

They allow the creator to have so much fun and play around with the characters in ways they never would in canon, experiment with new situations... And they're a perfect rp setting lmao.

Over the years I've created... way more than I should for my story x'D normal life AUs, AUs interchanging their powers (giving magic to characters who initially didn't have in the process), AUs where their personalities are the direct opposite (Arckan is a super bad guy there who's taken by a Krisos, an NGO that wants to turn him good so he can help make the wold a better place), sending them to another stablished series/videogame and seeing what happens, vampire AUs (plenty of variations, gimme all the bats), etc, you get the idea.

It's gotten to the point I'm making up AU's for other people's comics (aka: @Chita 's and some other for fun crossovers between my characters and some other creators').

Since it's something I'm so ~~obsessed wish~~ passionate about I'd love to hear what AUs you guys have for your characters. Gimme all the art, all the ideas, I'd love to read about them <3 (that may end up in another AU of my own hahaha).

Also, while thinking about making this thread, I did a collage with some art from some of the AUs, it's a big mess x'D It's down here in case you wanna see:

In the image we can see: Vampire AU arckan - bat version, Noragami AU, an AU where one of my characters turns into the god of life in my gf's universe, vampire AU 2, tangled AU Arckan, undertale AU - Alponse's route (neutral), vampire AU 3, gf's chara (hiimtryingtounderfell's) posessed by another character of mine, crossover between gf's story and mine, and finally, a dating sim AU.

AUs are always super fun. I haven't thought of many AUs for my current story, but I remember a friend and I created this entire AU with some of our Pokemon legendary gijinkas with... a plot far more intricate than any AU should be. Love triangles among gods, and of course, what if THESE characters ended up together instead of THESE ones.
And then, of course, the good ol' modern AU where none of them are gods, but they still keep their ridiculous personalities... and how ridiculous they would be within a mortal context.

It's not necessarily AU, but I love talking to other creators and coming up with little crossovers or, I guess actually AUs, just to think about how our characters would interact with each other. Wanting to see how characters interact is one of those lingering habits from my RP days...

I actually had been kicking around a Sci-Fi AU for @Chita's stuff funnily enough. I just never found the right time to talk about it or write down any concrete ideas beyond the basic premise.

Ah, youve got it wrong. Au mentioned here doesnt mean a literal story about universe. If i have to put it with an example, lets see... An AU of stephen universe story but set in a normal world without any power and gems, where stephen just living there as a normal teenager without powrr and such. Something like that.

The most recent thing I've experienced semi-related to AUs with one of my works was actually perpetuated by my readers in TreasureHUNT!! pages ~36-39 where in the comment section an AU of sorts was created xD It's the scene where the main characters meet the antagonist for the first time and subsequently get trapped in a cave by her. They spend a few pages figuring out an escape plan, but in the comments there were a number of funny comments about what would happen if they got stuck in there for good.

I legit cracked up reading these each week during this scene and have seriously considered writing a short story AU in the future about what would happen if they didn't get out after all ahaha.

And also I feel your friend 100%, I'd also do that kind of complicated stuff for sure hahaha.

And yes crossovers between different stories are cheff kiss perfection <3 It's so much fun, and more often than not cool stuff comes out of it c:

Hahahaha Chita MAY not have many AUs, but do not fret, we're gonna make sure she doesn't lack any x'D I feel like we drag her characters around in our excitement and that's like- the best thing. Dunno, I think it's super endearing, and her characters are lovely so it's not weird that happens ashfjlksag

Also if you get around to do it pls share it, if it's ok.

Heh, yeah. That'd be funny. I kind of already shower her and a few other friends here with random doodles of her and other characters like mine goofing off together when I'm bored and want to change things up. It's fun! XD

Ooooh <33 that's great, hope to see some of them around here someday (I usually post the AUs doodles in the "post the last thing you drew" thread since, almost always, they're 100% spoiler free regarding canon <3 just in case you feel like doing the same. It's nice to share some stuff about your ocs without having to worry about spoiling anything ashklgjag)

I cracked up reading them right now as well seriously ashkjfsag I regret not taking a look at the comment section more often x'DD @tired_programmer 's was my fave omg, Iove it.

I can't think yet of an AU for the whole cast but my most used ones have an AU. My most recent AU is full-on AiW with the characters just being bad with their assumed role. I'll try to link them later from offsite ><

We have a badtempered Alice (Alyss), a White Rabbit with no sense of urgency (Elias), Mad Hatters with no sense of taste (Camille & Darren), a former Alice (Lianna) who hated the feeling of being lost- who assumed the role of Mary Anne because she got lost in a labyrinth, and a flashy Cheschire Cat (Augustine). I haven't thought yet of how the trip to Wonderland would go but as far as I know, the White Rabbit got lazy in chasing new Alice and threw a book on her head instead to get her chase him.

I like AUs because they can provide lightheartedness on an otherwise huge story with cynical characters

This sounds like the best thing ever sajkfñlsag it must be a blast to think about (it's a real shame I'm not as familiar as I'd like to with AiW tho, it's a very interesting setting and story overall).

I also have trouble finding AUs for all the cast tbh, many AUs feature only my spoiled children hahaha (they go through the hardest stuff in canon BUT!! They get to have the most fun in AUs, sounds fair, right).

And also this is 10000% true x'D sometimes, after pondering about a very rough part of the story, there's nothing better than thinking about the bois drinking hot choco and eating pastries in a cute, happy AU<3

I consider every single rough draft of Dragon Sparking going back until 2008 as an alternate universe that also exists along with my canon universe.
One day I hope to do a crossover event. (Called Involuntary Doppelgängers)

I find AiW AUs to be really fun because there can be many ways to do it and most just get along with the weirdness of some executions but yes!!!! Super agree with all the points ! Ngl this topic just made me interested to see some AU comics posted in Tapas :oc

I love AUs. Kingdom Hearts high school AUs were my JAM back in the day. Loved them so much I would spend hours on FFN and RPing. lol

I do have an AU for my comic, Celestial Chronicle Shion, where it takes place in our time and it's a magical girl setting! I want to draw the comic but just don't have the time for it.

Lothair'd probably be one of the professors, though, which would make poor Matthias feel even more justified. Creepo professor, hitting on a student. The absolute horror.
Matthias visiting sometime, "accidentally" introduced to Ragnar, and then just ranting for two hours about how HE KNEW IT, OF COURSE THIS WOULD HAPPEN, WE ARE GOING HOME RIGHT NOW, YOU DO NOT NEED AN EDUCATION.

For sure! I wish I wasn't such a bum and would actually draw all the fun ideas that I come up with together with people, but it just never happens.

I want to. I actually learned a lot about composition from doing it. I guess in an odd way it's like a master study (if...you consider Dogs Playing Poker as a...masterwork xD)
