Im autistic and not in the mental state to take criticism (also as a rule of thumb with any artist you should ALWAYS ask before writing a critique. It's just polite.)

this topic is primarily about whether or not a more textured, less anime styled comic would be welcomed by readers.

The comic above is a Sci-fi Slice Of Life series where that slice of life just so happens to be from a goofy group of monsters trying to escape a labyrinth full of other less personable monsters. (I am the actual worst at picking a genre, I swear)

It's traditionally drawn backgrounds, with digitally drawn figures, 80s sci-fi aesthetic, and fun textures to go around.

Here's a chunk of exposition:

"Generations ago, in the midst of a war mans greed for power pushed science to make monsters they could not control.

They manipulated the souls of humans and animals alike to make beings of untold power.

But with that kind of power the monsters no longer had any reason to obey the orders of their creators.

Both sides having felt the wrath of their own hubris, called off the war. They came to the agreement that the monsters and the science that lead to their creation would never see the light of day again.

Scientists dimensionally warped the remains of the laboratory into the shape of a pyramid. Within it lies a mysterious labyrinth to which no Man, Monster or God could ever escape.

For most people that’s where the story ends. But for the victims of human experimentation this was only the beginning."

SO WOULD YOU READ IT?

No.

Since you're too sensitive for constructive criticism, I'll just leave it at that.

No, probably not.

I'm gonna leave it at that. I do have things to say but since you mentioned that you won't take criticism i'll just shut my mouth

I can't say for sure if I'd read it, but I'd certainly give it a look. I wholeheartedly welcome more unique styles and techniques in webcomics.

No, and it has nothing to do with it being less anime or being more textured, it's just not my aesthetics  Since the criticism is not an option, I will leave with this, surely there will be some people who would like it.

Not at all. From your reaction in the last topic from asking if you can block people in the forum, maybe you're asking the wrong people. Like I said before, i'm not into sci-fi and the digital characters and traditional backgrounds clash in more ways than one. Oops! Criticism, I guess I'll take my leave.

I actually don’t really like anime-leaning styles generally and don’t draw it myself but still I have to say I don’t think I’d read this personally.

Also if you didn't want criticism, you should've just made a poll and left it at that.

In regards to RSD, it’s probably best to avoid situations like this where people are going to reject your idea. It’s impossible to please everyone so unless you were fully expecting everybody to say “yes! I will read this” then maybe it’s best to avoid topics like this. Gotta manage that stress intake!!

that doesn't excuse bad faith commentary and unnecessary passive aggression after i explicitly asked yall to knock it off.

regardless of what features are and aren't available on a forum you should be nicer (to everyone, not just nuerodivergent people.)

it costs 0$ to not harass people online.

Or find a different creative outlet altogether. Comics is a tough racket for people that apparently need constant approval.

I believe the point was they had mentally prepared for "no" in the other thread but not for a multi paragraph deconstruction of their work when all they had asked for was a yes or no.

Anyway, I would say yes it would get me to check it out at least.

Possibly. Story content as well as characterization matters more to me than the aesthetics. The premise from the description seems interesting enough, group of friends/comrades trying to escape a pyramid? Neat~ A strong hook in the first episode or two could probably reel me in.

If you ask why anyone wouldn't wanna read a comic like this, chances are they're gonna give you a critical reason to explain why because without that context, it might just seem like a rude answer with no explanation.. The title of the thread kinda opens it up to criticism whether you want it or not tbh not that it's deserved, but it's just inevitable. Not only that, but we don't know exactly where you personally draw the line between actual criticism and plain observations we'd wanna comment on. You don't have to explain, and it's fine, you shouldn't have to. But it is a little harder to approach and give a more thoughtful answer without unintentionally offending you, from the looks of it.

My personal answer btw lol .. it's a no from me right now. I can sorta explain why, but it involves what could be considered criticism. If you're open to hearing it, lemme know, I'll try to keep it super short lol

Pff I'll leave out the comic promos this time.

Based off the visuals, yeah I probably would give it a go. Mixed media of that nature has always fascinated me, the only other webcomic I know of that does something similar is Weaker Sides (one I linked in the previous forum), it uses a mix of digital, traditional and photography to give a really unique look. It's honestly something I feel should be experimented with more, and has a lot of potential to aid in telling a really compelling story.

As for the premise, it sounds really interesting. It kind of has a 1997 Cube vibe, but with a comic, and I can see how the visual style could be incorporated into part of the story. Other than that I can't really give an opinion since I've learned over the years that it's not about the story you tell, but how you tell it that matters most. You could have the shittiest story on paper, but if it's presented well people will eat it up.
That being said, I would totally check it out! I love having new comics to read!

Anyways, take care of yourself, stranger! Public forums can be a stressful place, especially if you don't have experience with them, or have neurotypical disorder.
If you would like (and you have a Discord account), there is a server that is super positive where you can discuss your comic premise without unsolicited critique. The server is somewhat private being open to only lgbt+ folks, it is run by Support Webcomics1, both the owners have webcomics here on Tapas (Beanie1 and Catuallie) and you can DM one of them to give you an invite.
That is if you want to, of course! Sometimes it's nice to have a place to just talk about your work.

im prepared for no, not a 7 paragraph bad faith crit. (seriously this would not fly in a fine arts context)

I'm not looking to get into an argument, but there's something I want you to understand. I can't help but be passive aggressive when your emotional outburst in the previous thread and some of you comments since have left a bad taste in my mouth. I always try to be considerate of other people when I post in this forum but you just rubbed me the wrong way. I read the WebMD article and I apologize if I caused unneeded distress. Understand that, for the most part, criticism given on this forum is always from a good place and I can say the same for darthmongoose. I, like many other people here, want you to succeed in your artistic endeavors. Being an artist online is going to come with a lot of people not being as considerate as the people in this forum. Even if you have RSD, you shouldn't be surprised when unsolicited advice comes raining down. I'm not saying you have to be alright with it or accept it, just do more to prepare yourself for it. Because reactions like this:

won't go over well even though you have a good reason for it. Again sorry but I still think this whole thing could've been sidestepped with a poll.
