Likes, views, subs and comments, which matters to you the most?

I think the only way to calculate a view/comment ratio is to count the comments manually.

For what a good ratio is, I've read that most people average 3-4 subs and 200-250 views per update. I myself tend to average 7-8 subs with the same number of views, but have also seen a sharp decline in likes/comments on each update (possibly since I've switched to a weekly schedule instead of a monthly). It really depends on what you're writing, how you're writing, and how often you update.

I'm not sure what a good ratio is but I think views will always be the highest and next are the likes and finally the subs as the least amount amongst the three. Perhaps 3:2:1 is a little too much to expect so maybe 100:50:1 (every 100 views, gives you half the likes and +1 subscriber)?

Also, my ratio might be wrong, I haven't done math in a very long time so please don't call me out on the terrible ratio number :')

I noticed the decline in likes and comments too! On webtoons and even on the bigger ones with more followings. I wonder why that happens, even though their sub count increases.

Ooo! Do you usually add questions in the author's note? I want to try doing that to incite some discussion in the comments (since my webtoon is still a little new, there's not much theory discussion so I mostly get "Thanks for the update" or art compliments) but, I'm not sure if I'll come off as cringey if I do so :')

Also that's true! Most of the time, it's for the sake of pressing the like button (which I don't mind). It's kinda funny how there are scam likes XD

I usually ask how they felt about specific parts of the chapter I post and if they have theories about what’ll happen next. I really want to talk to my readers and I want them to guess about what’s about to happen so I can tell them they’ll have to wait and see

I ghost sub to bookmark too! XD It's kinda funny how most ghost subs are bookmakers actually. I guess as creators, you gotta keep in mind that some readers are pretty busy with their lives (for example: yourself) so they don't usually have time to like or comment.

As a creator, I appreciate every sub, active or ghost, because it still means that they're there and curious about the story you want to tell. But, it's nice to know that some ghost subs aren't ghost but rather they're delayed reactors XD It makes me feel hopeful for my large amount of ghost subs haha!

Does it illicit a response or discussion? Is it effective? I've seen only one other creator doing this and their comments section usually have people answering it.

I think for my case, my problem is that (based on my novel writing in the past and how the comments left on the page), I tend to almost give away spoilers if I see someone come up with a theory but it's not how the story goes. But on the other hand, I also want to give my reaction to show that I'm actually paying attention XD

Comments matter the most followed by likes... subs and views I don't pay attention much. I've seen creators with a bunch of subs and views but have a hard time with engagements from their readers... and they feel sad because of it. My comic is one of the few cases where my webtoon version has more subs and views compared to the tapas one, but I have more comments and likes in tapas despite having significantly less subs and views. That's the reason why i'm happier here in tapas.

As for a ghost sub...I say i'm not. I comment and like most of the series i'm following. You can easily see my profile for the no of likes and comments I gave. Any comics in my reading list that haven't gotten those are yet to be binge read by me. XD

Both as a reader and a creator, I think that putting any kind of personal note in the author’s note section is at least semi effective for interactions. I personally love it when authors stay real. I try to post something - ranging from “I don’t know wtf I was doing in this episode” to “omg I hit 100 subs!” to “this is what was going on in (other character’s) head” - but it’s the replying back to comments that I feel like make the biggest difference to that type of thing. I have two stories that I freaking LOVE and I comment on all the time... but they rarely comment back to anyone and I legit feel like this hurts their readership community. (Neither of them post personal author notes, either.) Sorry, I’m just full of rambling today

My loyal readers do but I want more of my new readers to chime in. I went back on my earlier chapters and added that I’d love their feedback or ask questions. I guess in time they’d catch up and engage so I have to patient. And I think I’d be the one to accidentally spoil someone because I’m so in love with my story that if you ask me anything I’ll probably tell you

The average I mentioned is from comics posted on webtoons, but I'm sure it changes depending where and what you post. In the end, I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers and focus more on just trying to provide the best story you can.

I really want to win the numbers game. I have been writing for a while and the success has been elusive. For me, being read is the Holy Grail. It is outside my control—I am not delusional, so yes, I understand that. I also do not begrudge others their success. But my body is ready for the Good Thing to happen to me.
