We started posting on both Webtoons and Tapas at the same time and were doing really well on Webtoons for a while only to have our numbers suddenly stall seemingly out of no where. That was really disheartening not going to lie.

Though we did begin to see more comments so that helped balance that aspect. Hopefully things will stabilise when the holidays come around.

Tapas for us has been a struggle. We've only just reached 23 subscribers. It's almost chalk and cheese between the two. But again the occasional comment keeps us coming back.

I feel these bigger sites favour certain genres. We're a sci-fi comic with elements of fantasy. We knew it was going to be a bit harder as it's still easily eclipsed.

What gets me the most though is that superhero gets its own main genre on Webtoons and sci-fi gets thrown in Other with romance! ಠ_ಠ

Has anyone heard of the recent thing with Shen deciding to put his comic on hiatus?
He was getting harassed a lot on Instagram and other platforms bc of his most recent comic.
A lot of people started spamming his posts with "bike cuck" because of that one parody made of the strip.

And so I decided to see how things were on Tapas, but surprisingly the people were just really really supportive, maybe 2% of the comments were about how his philosophy wasn't right, but the rest of the people were being nice as ever.

I checked Webtoons as well, and there were a whole lot of "bike cuck" and "kys" comments (Partly because of how Webtoons is more popular than Tapas, but still the ratio of hate to nice comment was much higher)

This just led me to believe that the Tapas community is just more respectful, especially in times like these

I didn’t know about that but I’m not surprised either. Webtoon readers are relatively young, a lot younger than Tapas’ from what I have observed.

Never once had I gotten a comment complaining I’m taking too long for an update or my update is too short, but that kind of comment is a frequent thing on Webtoon and by now i no longer pay attention to them anymore. Other rude kind of comment can also more likely be found on Webtoon than Tapas. Once again, very young children.

Plus unlike tapas, Webtoon users have more sense of anonymous to them because there is no profile function and all you know from someone is just a simple nickname. (which can easily be duplicated, there is no unique username) that sort of thing really only encourage people spilling out mean thing with no fear of consequence.

I find that aspect of Webtoons, where people have no profile, to be a bit disturbing. I like being able to see who is reading and liking our work and also have a chance to read there's as well. We've been very lucky in so far as we have not had a negative or hurtful comment yet. I do like the maturity of Tapas even if we don't have as much reach. I feel like it is a more supportive community of comic creators.

Don't mind that kind of comments, people can be really harsh on web.When I uploaded my webcomic on webtoon I was criticized because it was cliché, some of them tried to guess all my plot for like 3-4 chapters and after 10 chapters I started to receive positive feedback.

wow, thats horrible i can't understand why people would write something like this... no one should have to deal with something like this and from what i can tell by his comics shen is one of the last people who deserves this...

because there is no reason to do so with your series! It looks beautiful and has more output than some daily featured ones!

I haven't had bad experiences with the webtoons community as well, to be fair... once in a while a "too short" comment, but honestly, i AM really slow, so i can understand this...

People on the internet can be really harsh. Some probably just want to be heard and think that they'd stand out through mean comments. Its good, if you don't let it get to you! Let the quality of your series speak for itself. Let them choke on there own comments!

I had no idea that one comic by Shen ended up being memeified and spread around like that. All I knew was some other person on these forums reposted it here and made a ranty complaint.

In any case, it's like usual with internet spread. The memes aren't funny, the reactions are exaggerated, people are getting pissy over one tiny comic and ready to ruin a guy's life for it, and it's all just one big sign of how pathetic some people online truly are.

A person who engages in hatemongering of this ridiculous sort certainly can't have much of a life. Aspirations and friends take up too much time to leave any time for bullshit like this.

You've really intrigued me now. I'm going to have to read your comic to see what they got all up in arms about.

On the subject of cliches, and to a further extent tropes, you are going to find yourself using them, particularly when you are working within a genre, as that is what defines that type of story. If you over use them or treat them flippantly I could understand some level of criticism, but they do occur and that is okay. I feel this push towards "all OC, all the time" ruins the nature of creativity and narrative exploration as there are some cliches and tropes that work and work well and yet people are hesitant to employ them.

...Sorry for the rant haha! Kinda got away from me there.

I honestly can't say what I'd be doing right now without the platform that Webtoons has given my comic. They've promoted me a bunch, meaning I now have a largish, consistent base of regular readers over there who read, like and leave comments on my updates.

BUT... In the last few months, I've actually lost many more readers than I've gained. Not that I'm worried, whenever something is promoted, comic or not, you get an influx, but then a good percentage of them will drop off almost automatically. However it is funny that I was wondering out loud whether it's worth it to keep uploading here a few months ago, and since that time, I've gained a net 50 new subs here while I've lost about 200+ on webtoons over the same time period.

Not sure what the point is I'm trying to make here, except maybe, if it doesn't cost you anything, and you can keep up with it, you may as well post on as many places as you can, because you never know which way the wind will blow.

Is anyone else having issues uploading? It keeps saying the “invalid file format jpeg only” thing even when I’m using jpegs... I’ve tried it on multiple computers and I get the same issue.

I got this same issue yesterday but I rechopped my jpg into 1200 px long instead of 1280 px long and it fixed it.

I went through and read all of your comic. I loved how it sets the scenario up only to come through in a way you couldn't expect but makes sense when you go back. It's nice to see a different take on the romance genre.
