LINE Webtoon - Opinions?

Oh Wow! I'm loving the Patreon button on Webtoons.

It's on the site and app, on each episode and on the series' main page. This is great.

It lools like you need quite a few subs to start getting revenue, but it's nice that they even do it at all!

Also I've been looking at the Webtoon comments section recently. Is it just me, or have they started to become more kind to creators? I see the "too short" comment less and less, even on one page comics. Hmm, I'll have to keep checking and get a larger sample size.

I personally have never gotten a "too short" on mine and I used to update page by page. I noticed that the more popular comics had them all in one "update" so I adjusted it.

I've always been curious how and why so many people got those negative comments. ono

I'm really not sure either! D: A lot of times the comic was perfectly fine and it would get a handful of bad seed comments.

I think Webtoon actually might have responded to this and put up a kind-of karma system for comments. Down voted comments get pulled down and I think perhaps hidden. This may have discouraged many from commenting negatively as it would get pulled from view. Just a theory though. Maybe the community just... magically got better? XD

I think maybe it's also just time is a factor? I remember last year a few people would say that webtoons was bad just because of how impatient the community was and that if you could stand people making comments like 'too short' or other nitpicky comments about the art then you should upload. I think it's maybe the community learned manners or smth :Y

I used to get those comments from time to time when I uploadrf my comic, but I always reply to them back with a legit reason and explain to them why as I can't afford to make each update longer, and like I said before, people actually were very reasonable if you don't flip out on them and talk to them nicely. The person complained about short update quickly deleted their comment and apologize, after that there are still some people who complain about the update being short, but they were more or less "I'm too impatient I can't wait any longer I want new update please" and the occasion "I really want the update to be longer but author please take care of your health." I'm not sure how LINE used to be back then, but ever since I started update on there, my readers have been awfully nice and supportive!

😂 Also I haven't meant to make a Patreon yet, well not until I think I have a decent amount of reader base and buffer, but this Webtoon x Patreon just tempted me into it I gotta give it a try since I sort of qualify for the amount of subscriber haha //weep//

Webtoon is not really that toxic. I was surprised my self when I do have more subs and views in webtoon vs tapastic. 600 subs and 26k webtoon views vs 160+ subs and 9k Tapas views.I got also receive plenty of comments. One time I receive negative comment that she hats my comic because it was too short and she's going to hate it. So... What I did was i make the story longer so he/she will satisfied. after that she commented to the new update of my comic and apolgize if she was too rude. she just explained to me that it was just her reaction but she really do in love with my comic. time in time. just days at webtoon, I have fall in love with the site. But I also love Tapas. sorry for my bad english

Yeah and I saw that. But I'm confused about the qualifications. What If you have less 3k subs but you have 10k US views, Still qualified for pledge?

I believe we got low views here at tapas because of Ad Block while Webtoon Don't care about the Ad Block which even you have ad block it is still counted as views. Not sure but it is just my theory.

The expectation on Webtoon is for a very long, vertical update. People who upload print format pages are going to get a lot of comments about that unless they upload at least 3 at a time. My updates aren't that long, usually around 9-13 panels and I don't get any complaints anymore about them being too short. People can see that I put a lot of work into each panel so they're pretty forgiving, especially when you explain it to them.

95% of the comments I get there are very enthusiastic and positive, and the rest are mostly neutral. I've only gotten one bad comment so far, but it read like a troll and got down voted heaps.

I've been responding to the comments so far, but I don't get that many so it's okay. They don't notify you when you get a new one though, so it's super easy to miss one and makes sense why there's probably very little engagement from featured creators.

I think a lot of the readers see the comments section as a place to interact with each other, rather than with the creator anyway. Which is fine, not better or worse than Tap, just different.

That is one of the things that irks me about Line....because I do try to reply to my comments and sometimes my readers and I get into small conversations...so I have to constantly check back to see if anymore comments appeared...now that I think about it...the people seeing the comments section as a way to interact with other readers...does seem like that...when I replied back to the first few comments I had a lot of the people were like OMG you actually responded!!

i agree when you say their comments are worst than tapas ._.
I've published my web comic on line webtoon since 2014, i guess.. and until today, i can't find friendlier community rather than tapas :")
Sometimes their comments are very sharp. :")) (line webtoon i mean)
But line webtoon is a perfect place for commerce your web comic, because you can gain a lot of subscribers and likes instantly; especially if your story and art are good.

my opinion has actually done a 180 TBH I'm starting to prefer it over Taps XD the bad comments getting downvoted to oblivion I think the problem sometimes theyre over eager and that comes over as pushy

You have to have at least 3k subs to qualify for the pledge.

In order to qualify for Webtoon’s pledge, creators will need to:
a) Update at least twice a month
b) [Have 3k+ subscribers (All regions) AND have 10k+ US monthly pageviews / update*]
OR
[Have 5k+ subscribers (All regions) AND have 5k+ US monthly pageviews / update]

It's an "AND" statements, so you can't just qualify for one but not the other.

And on that note about their comment section, yes I agree it's quite annoying when you don't know who commented on what chapter. Sometimes I just randomly scroll back to my old chapter and BEHOLD a bunch of new comments had been sitting there for quite sometimes without me knowing. And I try to answer every comments possible so it's quite irritating for me...

Knowing that most readers are probably in the age range of 11-18 (mostly 13 maybe), I can say it's normal for them to be like that LMFAO.

I got 2,000 subscribers on LINE in about two and half months, which is mind-blowing, however, I just recently started updating here again, and it looks like I'm getting about the same number of likes and more comments with my 650 subscribers here.

So I think that maybe LINE readers are a perhaps a little more fast and loose with who they subscribe too. Anyone else experience the same thing?

Compare between the amount of subscribers I have on LINE vs Tapastic... the difference is ridiculous so I'm not sure how to compare them LMFAO I like both platform but my main readers are obviously all over on LINE. I have 8k6 subscribers with an average of 600+ likes and 50+ comments per episode. While on Tapastic, I have around 450+ subs, with 30-50 likes per episode and probably a few comments each update (3-10) I have a lot more communication with readers going on over at LINE than Tapastic.

So I think that maybe LINE readers are a perhaps a little more fast and loose with who they subscribe too. Anyone else experience the same thing?

I do agree with this though. In my mind LINE is like this easy going place where people can tolerate most stuffs and subs to you very easily and most likely won't unsub because they are too lazy to find your series to do just that. But Tapastic is this place where people actually have a refined and more narrowed taste, your stuffs gotta be pretty good for them to sub to you.

I think this could be because LINE is populated by mostly, purely READERS, while Tap is populated by mostly CREATORS.
