Since we're talking about Hiveworks... the thing that pisses me off about their application process is that their rules are all over the fucking place. You'd think they'd actually be on the page where you apply, but nope. They're sprinkled across the entire site and you have to dig for the exact requirements even elsewhere too. If they actually would have said on their application page that gore isn't allowed, I would have never wasted my time applying. And since they get inundated with requests it would probably thin them out if they put everything on a single page. Salty me is salty.

I was going to like this but I got this error "We have a daily limit on how many times that action can be taken. Please wait 28 minutes before trying again." Never seen this before. Anyway that would make me salty as well.

Oh god Hiveworks sounds like a dream! Do the comic artists who get accepted actually make enough to support themselves? That sounds fantastic /)v(\ LINE, Hiveworks... Both sounds like a dream. Those are both amazing goals to reach, since being a comic artist is all I've ever wanted to do!
Does hiveworks have the same exclusivity as LINE though? Would they help promote printed comics?

just checking out hiveworks, and i think i won't open that site anymore lol. the reason is, they only give a direct link to the comic sites so i won't get a notification if a new comic out, and i'm lazy to read it one page at a time (i prefer long strip format). however, i saw that the comic quality there is very good. i checked some random comic there and i'm took a liking for their works (if they don't put their work one page at a time like that i probably would read it)

Hive has been around for years and was formed on the more traditional webcomic format, so page per page updates which is what I do. Long format is actually a new thing to me. Plus for nofications because they're separate sites Google now has picked which one I read and pushd notifications to my phone everyday, I never miss one. But Google now doesnt work on platforms due a problem with RSS I guess

I put a few pages of my comic up on LINE, but the site seemed so unfriendly that it didn't seem worth re-exporting all my work in the correct size for their site. The first rating I got on the site was by someone who went through and one-starred loads of comics, and because my comic was new there and didn't have any readers, it spent days set at 1/10. I wasn't offended or upset by it, and I'm confident enough in my work that I know my comic didn't get that rating because it deserved it, but it gave me such a bad inpression of the community that I didn't want to stay.

I also tried reading comics on their site, but the UI was broken and I had terrible trouble even doing simple things like trying to subscribe to anything. I liked Under the Aegis, but I wasn't invested enough to put up with LINE for it, so unfortunately I stopped reading.

yeah i know that most artists posted their comics page per page, and i'm fine with that.
i think i have to explain what i mean by long format in case you meant the other thing. what i mean is showing "all pages" option like when you are reading in kissmanga. recently, i took a liking on a vertical format like what webtoons gives, but that doesn't stop me to read the traditional format. i still read manga and such

i think they can still choose you as a featured artist although your original comic is not in vertical format. ShootAround (the webtoon there) is originally made in a traditional format (should i say it like this?) and the artist change it to vertical format once it's published as featured comics.

i usually browse around the challange league section, but i only try to read some series which has an interesting cover, so maybe you can try changing your cover to somewhat interesting. also, try to make it in color if you want to attract attention (at least not black and white). if your art is great it would be a plus though because everyone loves to read a comic with a great art
if it didn't work.. well, at least it works for me.

also, i never am subscribing on line webtoon; i only read what i read through the daily schedule because it's already organized there. they need a subscription on challange league though, because it's so messy there.

ah, sorry. i mean this site. just click any random manga you find there and you'll see what i mean. they display the chapter in one page instead of one page at a time. it helps me concentrate when reading the comic.

well, i'm sure that there are still some readers that enjoyed your series. if you are competing in the sci-fi contest, just don't mind the rating. most of them are 'modified'. the high rating one mostly is the one who got upvotes from 'some traffic' and the downvotes are... you already know, right?

I have never checked it, but from reading all your posts, it seems so strange to me that they even have downvotes. :/ What's the point? Do they get a lot of offensive comic submissions that their mods can't handle? It seems like their audience is too "casual" to handle downvotes responsibly, so this must create a rather ruthless environment for authors.

true ...but i read on the desktop >.> not mobile. Mobile data here is super expensive plus I'm not invested in LINE enough to get the app infact I'm not keen on their design or their UI. theres not many comics there that I want to read, in fact theres only one. A lot of the comics there give me 'reader fatigue' I cant scroll forever without becoming bored or finding the story disjointed, i cant remeber what happened properly from one panel to the next especially if the compostion is just panel stacking. @keii4ii comic here I believe is an excellenet example of how to do vertical long format comics, I love the compostion scrolling down, I never get fatigued and also interested to see more.
Half the comics I read are here on Tap that i read in my upkeep everyday and the the rest (now) are on Hiveworks, the only ones that aren't are Plume (on chapter haitus) and cumcumber quest

Since the invention of the down vote its been agree it was a bad move (quoting hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy ) If the they wanted a way to suss out offenssive material they should only use the report button and nothing more. I dont think actually have an official downvote thou for the comics themselves it just insecure people gives new creators 1 star outta 10.

um.. actually they don't have a real downvote or dislike button there, they have rating and it got abused. the rating goes from 1-10, and the abuser will vote either 1 (downvote) or 10 (upvote). it only happens in the competition though. of course there is a point. in order for you to win the competition, you have to 'kill' the other participant, right?
also, i think the downvotes comes either from the other participant or their supporter, because there're so many downvotes there lol.

well i think that's a matter of preference i guess, lol. i don't really feel any fatigue reading the webtoons there (maybe i already got used to it? XD). anyways, not all webtoons provided there have the same format. there's also some webtoon which is using the format like heart of keol.
also, i'm not really sure what do you mean by panel stacking, but if you mean about the webtoons which has the a full big screen scene (or w/e it is called) and we have to scroll it down to see each scene like this one, it's because it's meant to be read by swiping left and right on your mobile device in korean version (called smart toon there and slide toon in the mobile version) and they messed it up by making it scrollable. can't say much about it tho since i think it should be converted to 'slide toon' too lol.

For the record, this is the comic I started posting there. It's far from perfect, and the early pages are from a couple of years ago, but I don't think my art not being colourful enough has ever been a problem. Maybe if I'd stuck around longer on LINE it would have worked out, but I already post my comic to two different sites, and the faint hope that I might one day be able to earn money from it (and less than my current job pays at that) wasn't enough to overcome the lack of a friendly community.

I need to be able to subscribe to a comic, or I just don't bother checking. I don't care if it's like the subscriptions here, via RSS or by following the artist on Tumblr, but I need a quick way to know when there's new content for me to read. I tried using their app, and it was even more broken than their site.

ok so i just read a few pages from that comic and i found the comic on line too. in my opinion , it's not bad, really. however, i'm not really sure what the story is about so i'm confused when i'm reading it (and look, you got the same response on the line page from 2 days ago lol). also, the fighting scene needs improvement imo; maybe you can use some lines and sfx to make it sure that 'he stab someone' and such. idk if that's your drawing style or not but if it is, it's somewhat hard for me to imagine; i have to wait for a second to realize what's going on. also, idk why but i must have missed your comic before. maybe you can also try to change your cover page to somewhat flashy (brighter maybe?) because it's not noticeable enough.

also, i saw that you are updating from april 19 to 24. idk if this will help, but maybe you can try uploading more to attract the readers. all the readers won't check challange league frequently, and if they are, they can miss an update because of how messy challange league is (no subscribe button? wow). maybe you can try posting it once a week in a month's time and see how it works out. also, there're also some silent readers lurking there, so maybe they just read and leave w/o commenting and such (i'm one of them too actually, so yea lol).

ah, and another thing, you have published more chapters in tapastic. if i'm a fan of your comic and i see that you only have that many pages on line webtoon while you have more on tapastic and somewhere else, i'll move over there lol (it has happened, really).

i somewhat forgot on how to subscribe on the mobile version (it's like months since i used it lol) but i think it's on the menu. don't forget to update it to the latest version tho, because iirc, the earlier version didn't have it. (and you can read slidetoon with swiping with the new version! (it's not that important tho.. lol))

Oh... snap. I just started to feel really horrible....
Because I did get something similar to that message every artist on Linetoon is waiting for. >_< It wasn't really about being featured right away but something along the lines "Your art and ideas have caught our attention, if you can update regularly every week, you could be featured." They didn't talk about any wages.
I didn't think about it much and told them that updating like that is not possible for a student like me and that I'm not always online and with the absence of scheduled upload on their site updating regularly would be really hard, even if I had time to draw. Did I just lose a once in a lifetime chance? >_<

(Also, somewhere around that time I was trying to upload there the long episode Deep Ocean Dive and kept getting an error message so in desperation I tried posting only half of it and it worked. But when I tried to upload the rest, the error came back so I just gave up on it and just look there for yourself how I had to solve the problem.
With this, I lost any interest in publishing there.

I mean, I really didn't like Linetoon from the start and its glitches everybody talked about here. I started posting comics at the same time as here on Tapastic. It was originally only for research for media studies (how can an unknown artist do on webcomic publishing platforms without being active there - I planned to post my old comic on every webcomic site and then be gone but it was Tapastic with its amazing community and site that hooked me up to stay doing webcomics!). And since they didn't have scheduled updates, the comic there fell quickly behind the version posted here.

The talk about toxic comments made me look at my episodes there and didn't really find a hateful comment (at least as far as I can understand >_> ). I just remembered at the beginning I started posting that old comic of mine, Crow, in classic page format, which I deleted later and kept updating only the vertical version. Under the classic page version there were some comments like "Post only mobile optimized comics here, this is outdated." or something accusing me of stealing the Crow character design from some anime (the anime wasn't specified). Also, there was one sad comment saying "Though people are downvoting comics now because of the contest, I'll vote for you". (I figured there was a contest going on too at that time.) Though I admit I was taken aback a bit by these, I didn't really give it much thought and it just added to my decision of making my home here on Tapastic.

So this is my story on Linetoon.

TBH $2000 is a lot and definitely would save me but you'll never know when they'll kick you out (like Inkblazers I heard did) and their web usabilty just sucks - I'm fairly tolerant to people's design tastes and UI choices but compared to Tapastic where you ask about some glitch you encountered and it gets FIXED IN A DAY, it stands no chance. (And Tapastic's mascot is super-cute )

I'm simply happy here in this friendly and hardworking community with my $14 from supporters and $2 from ads and drawing things I love for people I love. Happily ever after

Yeah these were the issues I had, the community is rude without sugar coating it as enthusiasm and the site design, features, server stability were too lacking. Some comics on there take a while to load. I personally think they need invest in their platforms basic functionality before hiring so many artists. I seriously worry for those artists it might go belly up like inkblazers due to poor management of the project
