I can't disagree with you on that at all. As much as I love Line for seemingly giving a huge boost to many readers compared to other sites, it does have its problematic points as you mentioned. It's a two sided issue. The way Webtoons works allow for easy reading and for creators, a very easy way to gain these readers. This is the single reason, other than hoping to get featured an earn money I suppose, is why many people switch to Webtoons.
You often get more readers, more subs and that often gives the impression of having more attention.Unfortunately, as you've indicated already, this is at a cost of a site that doesn't leave much offer for creators and readers to collaborate and get together. Some of it is so awkward that I keep going back to "settings" to make sure I didn't miss something.
It's always been a bit ironic to me. One could argue that Webtoons has way more flaws to it in its design than positives. There's no proper notification. You can't properly speak with your audience or make your own unique page. You are right, commenters feel invisible and you can't even click on their name to see if they got anything good to check out.
But the parts that Webtoons does good is the exact thing creators want. They want readers, the more the merrier one would say. People love to get readers and when you have a site that's probably giving many people 10x the amount of readers and subs than on other places...it does feel pretty nice.
It's a real shame because there's a lot of things Webtoons could do to make things better that wouldn't take any effort at all. For example, a proper notification. I have no idea if I get a new comment or sub unless I personally look for it. It baffles me at times because it feels like such a common thing on any other site.
