Made a tumblr for my webcomic should i make a website?

Hello! So I made a tumblr for my webcomic Fragments of the forgotten ones
here is the tumblr

My comic is still pretty earlier should I stick with the tumblr for now and then make a website?

If you can afford to have your own domain and are able to manage the site then go for it.

If you have the means to build a website, I think you definitely should. It's especially great for later down the line if you're planning on selling merchandise or receiving donations. I have a website for my own comic I host here on Tapastic mainly for the purpose of character bio pages, an extras page, to be contacted directly etc. Go all out with your comic if that's what you want to do :D!

It really depends on what sort of direction you want to go. When it comes to gaining viewers, Tumblr is by far the better choice. More people are likely to see your comic on this platform than on your own website. Eventually, your own site is ideal for hosting your comic and your work. But for now, Tumblr is a good place to build up a following so that when you do create a website, you already have a large enough audience and, of course, another reason to promote your comic on its new site (and you'll have many many more pages by then to make the promoting go farther).

But I think it's easier to attract more viewers and fans through social media, that's where your stuff can get shared and you still have ownership over the content. Your comic will be easier to find there and promotions are much easier. But no one says, you can't have both And a website is good to use as a portfolio - you could also link tumblr posts back to your website.

You can also buy your domain for about $9 (a year), then have it point to tumblr site. This way, you get free web hosting via tumblr now and you still have the option to get a dedicated web host later on.

Alternatively, you could get a domain for your own name, and use a subdomain to your webcomics. For example, if your name is Jack Sparrow and you own "jacksparrow.com", you can create the subdomain "mywebcomic.jacksparrow.com" to point to your tumblr account. This way, you only pay for one domain a year, and you can use many subdomains for your projects.

There's no need to have a payed domain. There are alot free hosts that offer hosting and websites.
I got my website on http://www.biz.nf/ and it's free. You can also try wordpress for a blog for your comic.

Thank you! I fought so hard for the watercolour aesthetic when we were deciding the overall look of the comic so I'm glad people respond to it
