I can't seem to find their terms of service. So a big NOOOOOOO from me, hahah! That's just too shady. Maybe someone can point me to them though.

What could potentially happen tho? I mean, what will you do with the terms of service? It’s obvious they make money from viewership which I already know and I bearly make any profit from it and that’s why I use that opportunity to push my Patreon page which has actually worked quite well.

So is there anything a terms of service will contain that will sabotage me??

Found the terms and conditions.

Apparently, any translations of your work, uploaded by Manga Toon users, belongs to Manga Toon. So basically, you can't use that translation elsewhere.

Also, kind of creepy...
"• MangaToon has the right to use all information released by users through MangaToon, and reserves the right to manage, modify and delete the information released by users;"

You could potentially be giving up the rights to your intellectual property, or a license for them to do whatever they want with your work, your username and your trademarks.

It's unlikely anything bad happens though. I'm just overly cautious over such things. Hahah! <u<

Now I’m kind of worried. Does this mean they own my stuff now? I want to get a better understanding. Kinda sounds like it when I went over to the website to read it.

Should I be worried??

Nice! Thanks for digging them up! : D

So if someone translates your comic, MangaToon owns your script in that language? lolololo

They'll have a hard time stopping you from posting your own material and doing whatever you like with it. However, it could potentially mean that they have the right to do with it as they wish as well.

I'd say they are just covering themselves in case that the creator puts something in the comic that draws criticism. This way they deflect the blame onto you. Nothing out of the ordinary as they have no control over the content you post.

That is a disclaimer much like those that they issue before or after certain shows to say that the views of the showrunners don't reflect those of the network.

"Any dispute over the content of the statement or its implementation shall be settled through friendly consultation as far as possible; if the dispute cannot be solved through consultation, the parties of the dispute agree to submit the dispute to the Shanghai International Arbitration Commission arbitration committee for arbitration in Shanghai in accordance with the arbitration rules. The arbitration award shall be final and legally binding on all parties."

Good luck if you end up having any legal issues with them.

I tried publishing there but... here, have a look.

The work in question is:

I feel like laughing, at the same time I feel insulted too. I worked on it for about 2+years and someone suddenly said its a translation of others work... kinda have a mixed feeling on that 🤣

This is in response to the what's the worst that could happen thing.

Not on Mangatoon, but another site we nearly had a big issue. We were going to keep the copyright, but they were going to have the write to make whatever they wanted from our work and not give us a dime. They had things listed like video games, tv shows, and anything that could come about from future technology.

So yeah, we would own the sort but THEY'D have all the merchandise rights... which still leaves one with no money. I'm good with Webtoons and Tapas for now.

I was on Mangatoon before and I don't like their terms&services it's kinda shady.

sureee.... ok well I've decided to stay. most free comic websites have shitty TOS anyway. hopefully, nothing happens and i don't have to fight for what's mine. :sleepy:

1 year later

Is this topic still alive? I just got an issue with MangaToon and their submission terms1 is indeed very shady. They suddenly made an Otome version of my book Doted by the Alpha10 and didn't notify me about it on top of not crediting me as the author and making it pay to read. I messaged MT about how I didn't like what they did and warned that I would press legal charges so after a day of it on their platform's front page, they finally deleted it. They apologized and offered to credit me for my work and 35% royalties to the gold coins but saying that they have the right to adapt to my work without prior notice since it was already mentioned on their submission terms and I agreed to it when I uploaded my work on their platform. I know it's my fault for not reading their term and condition when I uploaded my book on their platform but this was insane. From this experience, I will from now on take my time reading the terms and condition before I upload any of my books to other platforms.
