I do this... Do you? If so, please explain.
Despite any similarities they might have, American comics and Manga are unmistakably distinct. But unlike print comics, webcomics, being an almost strictly independent medium most often created by amateur artists and writers, has a tendency to combine the styles together to various degrees.
Are you an example of this? Is it artistically? Is it in the way you tell stories? Are you merely swapping tropes like tournament arcs and secret identities among others?
In my case, I infuse my American-style, Superhero Comic with a Mangaka's sense of completing an epic.
With few exceptions, American comic properties tend to be owned by corporations, which sees them being passed around from writer to writer. This results in schizophrenic storytelling and jarring status quo overhauls.
A manga is almost always written and drawn by the original creator (with help from assistants) throughout the entirety of its run, with some series lasting decades. This results in a consistent vision and coherent world building no matter how large the story becomes (I'm speaking generally, so please don't bombard me with examples to the contrary).
I have a solid 6 years of story planned for my comic, with plenty of room for more (I just didn't want to overdo it... yet). Even in Year One, I already laid the ground work for some big reveals later down the line. I really enjoy the sense of responsibility it gives me knowing that the only way The Skyman's story will be told is if I tell it.
