But think what people are also getting at is that it's being banned/censored even WHEN it's behind a mature tag.

I do not support that way of action, but I know the variety of reasons to why that happens:

• Because they didn't quite get the ambiguity of the guidelines (which in fact gives us more liberty).
• Because they didn't read the guidelines at all and just went through with what they saw the big comics do.
• Because they are a Tapas exclusive work (Tapas won't risk anything remotely relatable to NSFW content with the works under their brand).
• Because they decided to sell an uncensored version.

Fear, ignorance, brand and money move the world, not censored penises and nipples.

There was a Korean artist in picarto channel last year telling me about it and I spoke to some of the Korean artists on the site and they seemed to confirm it but it sounded more like a "companies can dictate" but then someone mentioned that no, it was the government cracking down on art stuff but it was only art that was deemed degrading.

I'll go ask and see if any of that is still the case and get back to you.

Thanks for clarifying, fellow Tapas users. I just thought that the censoring was something that feautured artists have to do and the Canvas/Discover creators don't have to.

Unfortunately, even webhosts can do this. I found out after I paid for my webhost that they actually don't allow ANY nudity at all, even if it's non-sexual in nature.

thats understandable but remember there are HUNDREDS of hosting companys out there. look, i use go daddy and they dont care at all. matter of fact, i had one of their reps take down link to my website to read later. the only downfall about Godaddy is that they are expensive.
one of the main reasons why i'm actually able to afford it is that, i share the expenses with my mother and sister and in return i build and manage all their websites since i'm a website designer anyway. so yes. Godaddy wont limit you at all. not sure about others.

Korea and Asian culture in general is weird about that kind of thing. They'll have the most terrible ideas about dating, and physique and everything that causes Asian men and women to become NEETs but once there's a bare titty or dick in a manga or Manhua panel it's all "OH GEE LORDY THAT'S DEGRADING"

Well, some thorough shading and mature tags can get ya past the ban hammer. as people mentioned, though it might not show up on the IOS app, because as @djwaglmuffin put it so eloquently, we're being babysat by a bunch of corporate roobs that don't understand that not everything is based on a fucking corporate guideline and the Tapas Admins can't do anything about it.
But it's not nearly as bad as Webtoon, who follow a more... let's say stupid method of deleting anything that gets too big for it's britches that they don't agree with.

South Korea has some of the strictest porn laws in the world, so it probably has something to do with that and Webtoon not wanting to be fined and err on the side of caution. Especially if they host content on their servers inside South Korea.

Well, it seems like Webtoons just updated their content policy on July 30, 2019. I got hit with them taking multiple pages down yesterday and am in the process of trying to get them to put them back up. This happened last year, too, when someone went through and reported a bunch of pages, but I was able to successfully get them to reverse the removals. Not sure it will work this time even with the censorship I made to the pages because the new policy states:

"Mature or Sexual Content

Content that contains nudity or intended to be sexually gratifying is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, full and partial nudity, as well as graphic depictions of sexual acts.

The ‘Mature Content Warning’ feature should be used to identify mature themes and content, including topics of sexuality. However, please note that utilizing the ‘Mature Content Warning’ feature does not mean that nudity or explicit sexual content is allowed on the platform."

They didn't seem to target the 'partial nudity' (shirtless) of male characters from my story, though. Some of the pages weren't NSFW at all, so I don't know what the problem was with them. The others I had labeled as NSFW and they were more censored than they are here on Tapas.

That is actually the clearest guide to the expectations regarding sexual and mature content I've seen on most major creative sites. Like, I'm against the censorship aspect of it, but at least everyone knows very clearly where they stand.

Yes, it is. I'm pretty sure it used to say prior to July 31 something like partial nudity was ok as long as it wasn't intended to be sexual and was censored/marked mature. I don't remember getting any notification from them that the policy was changed. Also, they don't let you know they've taken stuff down, I just happened to notice that the upload count was different from the day before, then had to go and manually figure out which pages were missing.

I think at this point, it's easier to make censored pages and then unleash the censored versions on Patreon or something similar. That, and maybe posting certain series to certain sites based on the rules.

I've been thinking it over myself, trying to figure out how I'd split up my works.

They won't take down stuff based on a few swear words that are crossed out or a few scenes that has been slightly NSFW but still censored.

They deleted my comic even after I censored nipples and buttcracks.

ah...webtoons....I think this is the second time in two weeks I've had pages removed on Webtoons and the third time overall. It's such a pain to get them to put the pages back. I really hate that they don't contact you to let you know stuff's gone...Time to see how long it takes them to get back to me and restore the pages. I think it took a week last time. Hope no one else has been targeted lately.

Yeah, this sort of stuff is exactly why I went with Tapas instead of Webtoons. I thought it would be a good site, but their guidelines basically stop any creativity that wants to cross any lines. I don't know why people use it with these restrictions, honestly.

If it helps, I have a comic on webtoons where one of the main female characters is always naked- no nipples or genitals though. For another character I have shown female nipples uncensored, and there's cursing, on the first page even. Everything completely non-sexual.

Yet it didn't stop my comic from somehow being featured on the front page there once :0. If what people on this forum have said is true, that was from staff picks, which hopefully is a pretty clear indication they're okay with my content.
