Personally, I find that motivation to keep reading isn't that hard because writing is so deeply ingrained in me that I can't NOT write. But when it comes to staying motivated to finish one specific story, I think two things that helped me finish my novel "Damsel in the Red Dress" (and keep working on it's ongoing sequel) were the deadline and actually releasing it. Because I started the novel for a challenge, I felt it would be a waste of time to quit before I finished. Also because I'm releasing it and have people reading and supporting it, I feel accountability to make sure they actually get the chapters they're waiting for.

When it comes to keeping motivation in general, I think working on several different projects can also be helpful so you can work on different ideas when one starts to burn you out, but not just drop writing altogether for long periods of time. Reading and watching a lot of stories, and going out and seeing new things is also helpful, because the more interesting things you see, the more you'll be inspired. These are just things I've found inspire me personally, and it's always easier to write when you're inspired.

Thank you that was quite educative and similarly I do find it hard to finish novels when started, I sometimes start them but I never get to the finishing part, and since I don't have a following keeping the motivation is hard.
So thank you for your take on it.

Thank you for your reply, it means a lot to me.:grinning:
i also got a bit of ideas here and there for another novel but i fear i might burden myself so i just left it at this for now.

I find that motivation or inspiration is just not efficient. Personally speaking, of course. It's better if you find the discipline to do it day-to-day.

What happened to me was that I lost the motivation after a few months to the point that I even forgot my own plotline. I ended up discarding a few novels because of this.

Find your discipline!!

i agree. i too did have a lot of stories just go right through my mind, i never even bothered to write it down. But celestia was different bcoz it just kept like haunting me, i mostly ignored it for a long time. but at some point i felt guilty that i am not writing it down. so i just wrote the plot down in my notes app. it still took another month or so for me to actually take the decision and start writing .:relaxed:
