My Webtoon account is dying

Long Story Short: This is a big whiny post essentially asking: does being Tapas exclusive have it's benefits? If you don't feel like reading my whining, just tell me everything you know about that. Also, let me know if you have any solutions to my Webtoon problems.

I never really had much luck with Webtoon. Initially it got more love than my Tapas account, but ever since I started posting in the forums, my Tapas (relatively ) blew up. It wasn't all bad on Webtoon, but recently I've been losing subscribers.

Keep in mind I didn't exactly have a lot to start with.

I noticed that, for my post last week, my view count did not go up at all. And just this morning (I posted today, as I do every Thursday), I lost another subscriber after losing one last month.

I've been posting consistently. My story is literally in the process of heating up (the Season One finale is on it's way). My art has not gotten any worse (I mean, if you don't like it, you don't like it, but if you liked it before, nothing should have changed your mind). So, I don't really know what the source for my rotten luck on Webtoon could be.

Tapas, however, has been going pretty... sure... lol It's fine. Growth is slow, but it exists, and I definitely get more likes, comments, and what not. Also Tapas has the forum so anytime I want a quick adrenaline shot in my views, I just have to find an excuse to post the link in here (not unlike this topic Tapas - Webtoon - Patreon, Season One available on Instagram).

Not that I have any immediate plans, but in a hypothetical future where growth remains stagnant (or worse) on Webtoon, and growth remains existent if slow on Tapas, would it benefit me at all to focus exclusively on Tapas? Seems like the community here allows for much easier self-promotion, and also the interactions with subscribers actually makes it all seem worth it. So far, flat out, as a creator, I prefer Tapas.

Well, I don't see a reason to not keep posting in both. My patreons came from my webtoon readers and my tapas readers donate ink. I work more on my Tapas, only because is more profitable, but the feedback from webtoons is just amazing.

• In my experience, being exclusive anywhere does not benefit you unless you are a multi-million dollar corporation that has enough advertising reach to drag people to the one place where they can find your product.
  If you are not, then you're simply putting up another barrier for potential readers ('I have to go to another site to read this? Maybe later...or maybe never...')
  I don't think this way, of course, but apparently most of my readers/viewers do, because cross-platform advertising has been notoriously unsuccessful for me, no matter where I attempt it. =/

• Losing two subs in two months isn't exactly what I'd call catastrophe (I mean, unless your total before was, like, 5). I think there's a limit to how many series you can be subbed to at one time there, so it's entirely possible that the people who leave are simply cleaning house/moving on to webcomics they like more.

• In spite of all that I've just said, I don't think it's a bad idea to put your focus on the site where you get more engagement. Feedback and actual interactions are very motivational, and there's nothing unnatural about wanting to gravitate towards it. At least you'll know your effort is paying off somewhere.

I'm also wondering if Tapas is a place I should post my comic. What's preventing me atm is that all my files are sized for webtoon at 800 px and I'd naturally want to use Tapas' 940 px. That means I'd have to do all +30 pages again.

Webtoon is supposed to be the more popular site so I'm surprised you're doing better here. Do you get new subs on webtoon or are you just losing them/ remaining stagnant? I also don't have any success on webtoon. I lose quite a lot of subs, often when I update. Today's update also crashed my ratings. Down voting is something that happens frequently to me too when I update. But if you're not making money on Tapas I don't think you should give up on webtoon. If it's not any extra work uploading there you have access to the largest webcomic community on the web.

You can post smaller size files on Tapas. They will look fine. You don't need to resize. The 940 is a max setting.

EDIT: Croppy Extension now ALSO works on Tapas. Same bookmark works for both websites, so if you already made the bookmark you can start using it for tapas as well- you just may need to close and reopen your browser completely before it will work- you'll know it works when the popup says tapas and webtoon(not just webtoon). Okay, that's good to know. Still, I'm not happy with my earlier pages and am really itching to redraw the first 10 pages. And I know my font size is all over the place, that's something I'd have to change too. God I hate being such a perfectionist! I find flaws in other peoples works charming, but see pure trash when I look at my own. It's so tiring mentally and physically!

I think it's bc of webtoon algorithm.
Last year, my first series got lots of subscriber every update and then after 3-4 episodes I noticed my subs' getting smaller instead.
I'm not sure but I think it's their way of engouraging new artists to update regularly.
That's why you can't even see who's subscribing you. Manipulation and false hope.

I never posted my series on tapas though (bc i dunno how things work here).

I do have more than 5 subs, but not much more... Someone has subscribed since I made this topic, though... But yeah, I'm not in a great place to be losing subs atm.

I also heard Webtoon was more popular. I actually discovered Tapas first, but heard that Webtoon was bigger so I figured I'd do both...

Neither has been particularly amazing but the Tapas community has definitely been better for me.

That makes sense... I hear most algorithms are assholes.
I also heard that's what Instagram does... They put you on a "new account" list that gets you a whole bunch of love early, but then things stagnate.
