I definitely prefer this app to the previous one. I think the daily comic snack bit is cute I just hope there is more variety in the future than the series that tend to be featured on it. (Especially considering I'm subscribed to a few that tend to be featured thus meaning I get repeats more often than not- if you could work it out so that the five comics were ones the user wasn't subscribed to already I think it'd be neat.)
I hope the notifications that are only available on the computer website so far get implemented soon, and aside from that it would be nice to have the forum built into the app itself.
Overall I've found the app to be rather stable.
I do have one issue though in that this app doesn't let me view the comics in landscape mode for some reason? Considering I have a small phone it can make it hard to read some comics on portrait view. Is there an option I somehow disabled for allowing me to turn my phone? Is it not available for some reason?
Exactly. Expect to see more long form serials there in the future. Our best webcomics page3 already supports "see more" collapsed view that accommodates long form comics rather nicely; we could have similar UI on the mobile Snacks view as well.
Yes working on that too. One day you'll see this!
Here is a more comprehensive list of app feedback now that I've had more and more interaction with it.
I'll preface this by mentioning that 90% of my taptastic interaction is on mobile, and I only use the browser for forums seeing as how there is no other option. Therefore there is not gonna be very much comparison since I'm unaware of most of the browser and mobile site features. (Is it sad that I went literally months without knowing about notifications?? One day I went on the site on my laptop and was completely confused as to what these 50-some little red messages were...)
Good things:
Overall everything runs smoothly- I've never once had to deal with the app crashing or freezing. The only time I've ever gotten an error message was during maintenance time, which, of course, is completely expected.
All the art for menus and what not looks really good and gives the app great personality. I also think the current yellow icon pops out a lot more than the previous red one.
I like that I can load all the series in my notification section right now, for those times I wanna check on a comic again.
All the menus are unobtrusive while reading and functional when pulled up.
Love how uncluttered and easy it is in general.
Wants:
Now that I know notifications exist, I of course want them implemented on the app. (This has been adressed but I'll list it for completion's sake.)
I reaaallly want to be able to look at comics in horizontal mode.
Also being able to navigate pages with swiping as well would rock.
This one is a little obsolete maybe but one comic app I use gives you an option to move back and forth through pages via the up and down volume buttons and I super love it.
Showing the featured comic on mobile.
The ability to sort different genres different ways.
Settings beyond comic snack notifications in the setting center in general.
Enter button beside/inside the comment boxes when you're commenting on comic pages.(It took me almost as long to figure out hitting enter twice on my phone left a message as it took me to realize notifications are a thing. I kept hitting X and wondering where my comments went. Maybe you shouldn't listen to my feedback actually I'm not very smart.)
Great app though- it definitely has a cozy spot right near comico on my phone. Keep the good work coming.
@Jelw Thanks so much for detailed feedback! We'll definitely take a look.
I love the new app.
I do think the comic snack should be optional or easily skipped.
I noticed that the comics appearing in the different categories are slightly different.
For example Shades Of Men1 appears on computer on the 4th page of Popular and not at all on the app.
Wonder if you are using a different algorithm for the app than for the main site.
Otherwise, Very Happy!
Can I make a suggestion!!!
My husband has the attention span of a nat! so i tested the app on him. Overall he prefer it to the mobile site, bonus! something he asked for and I think would be great is this:
a side swipe action to go to the NEXT page/episode of a comic. He said Imgur has it and hes super comfortable with that kind of intuitive design.
yeah I think thats what he tried to do on instinct. Like when hes on imgur he'll scroll down the page read or view the content then swipe to go to the next one. I'll mention the feature is there and see if it works for him.
He's my test bunny, primarily because he reads a few webcomics but not a lot of them so it looking at a glance at non-readers.
Is it possible to turn off the comic snacks so you can't see the comics? I appreciate the intention of the feature, but today was the second time a comic snack comic triggered a bad phobia of mine. As it is though, the comic is the first on the snack list, meaning I have to wait til tomorrow to feel comfortable opening the app.
