New Twitter limit

So i thought twitter was acting REALLY weird today (what an awful time to post) and after a lot of scrolling on the for you tab since i can no longer accesss my ffollowing ttab much less my own page i find this

so i'm not even gonna joke about "can we say the site is dead now" but instead ask for reactions, thoughts and where folks plan to go since this is clearly not viable anymore or at least until it inevitably fails and gets rolled back (if at all)

personally i've been aiming to make tumblr, artfol and ko-ffi where i operate since i'm really not fond of the idea of going back to instagram. but i'm also going to need some kind of twitter alternative that actually connects me to other people and not just other artists

i think the funniest (read frustrating) thing about this is i'm now no longer able to see replies (as the limit seems to have already been imposed) so if people have threads with info about what's going on i genuinely cannot see it so idk if i should just log off for the day or mindlessly scroll the for you page till another something inevitably pops up....it's all just really annoying

Oh heeeey that's why there have been so many bug reports! I'm not on twitter but people send tweets on our discord and usually there's a popup with a preview of the tweet that wasn't working. Checked and there had been over 7500 bug reports in the last hour... I guess implimenting this limit sort of broke everything, huh.

Also bug up to the devs that quit after he bought the site, they said that with the remaining skeleton crew, they predicted the site infrastructure would collapse within the year... Looks like it's shaping up to be correct...

yeah, just managed to catch a glimpse of a post explaining what's going on (don't know if they went into any more details since I couldn't see the replies...)
and... it sucks, cause, in my eyes, instagram is even more broken (it shows 1-2 posts from people I follow and then a sludge of random algorithmic trash and I don't know any browser plugin that would get read of it), tumblr is mostly for shitposting not connecting with people and the reason why I most people I followed there moved to twitter (the nsfw ban) still stands, deviantart has killed itself years ago with eclipse and has been only getting worse since then... wish more people would use pillowfort or cohost

i feel like there was something that happened ages ago with pillowfort which is why i've continued to not bother with it ttho it'd be nice if i could recall what it was

cohost i feel like i saw a lot of people post about for a while along with bsky.social (which i guess is some kind of twitter clone) but not knowing enough about the people running it or their content rules has been a deterrent

if anything i'd say i'm mostly jaded after the buzzly fiasco which was the last "new haven" i tried to join so motivation to join any other new names with little or no context to background has been keeping me stagnant

i wholeheartedly agree on the instagram thing tho and i'd honestly rather bother with tiktok even if it means having to alter art content for video formatting but it's genuinely annoying how fickle a lot of sites have become

Twitter has been working normally for me, I have a list pinned so instead of checking "For you" or "Following" I check what my closests friends post, nothing weird so far.

The site hasn't been a woah obsession for me either, I usually scroll and engage more in Facebook and Tumblr (Tumblr being the one I like the most since it's easy to navigate, filter stuff and also no algorithm, which if you want stuff to reach someone you basically have to engage yourself in order to do it, also no downs if you reblog your own stuff)

I don't remember hearing anything shady about pillowfort, people (or maybe even person) behind cohost have been pretty transprent about what they're doing (though can't check anything about the site at the moment since it seem to have broken), the site itself seems like tumblr but for grownups (becasue of it allowing to use html in posts :P), can't say much about the bluesky thing apart from it seeming like a closed "cool folks" club with it being invite only and who's gotten in so far; don't ever remind me about buzzly... that was such a disaster... and I really don't want to touch tiktok with a 10 meter long pole (whenever I visit that site for any reason I feel like it's going to give me some kind of virus)

Yeah, as I've said, is because Twitter is not the place where I engage the most. So I bet its kinda logical I don't reach the limit so quickly

Well, as people is migratting from Twitter, may I suggest for you to go to Cara.app for art?
It was created by Jingna Zhang (Zemotion) due to the implosion of sites like ArtStation or dArt, that embraced AI and NFTs. Cara.app was made as an alternative for artist, and is pretty nice, but it would really benefit from more people there.
Another more stablished sites, is of course Instagram.

Now about twitter exploding, do you know any other app like that? I tried Bluesky, but you need an invite to have an account, so it is not for me yet xD.

It says right in the post that it's a temporary limit, but how long "temporary" is remains to be seen, lol.

In any case, I don't really plan to leave Twitter unless it completely dies, but I've seen a lot of people jumping ship to Tumblr.

Im just waiting to see which sites folks will accumulate at. I already have difficulty keeping up with twitter and instagram + posting my comics on 3 different platforms. I just have 0 capacity to be active on these other places too

...What I take away from this, and other criticisms I've read, is that one of 3 things is gonna happen:
(a) Twitter is going to break itself
(b) Twitter won't break, but these asinine 'rate limits' will make it so that the average person will only be able to use Twitter for an hour or two a day, which will eventually turn them off of using Twitter at all, which will cause ad revenue to plummet exponentially, which will lead to the site dying anyway
(c) A CERTAIN SOMEONE will roll back this decision after seeing the chaos it's already causing and how it helps literally no one

okay one that's a huge lol but it also brings me back to a tweet i saw that said it could also be about hosting since google runs some of twitters servers and since the same someone didn't pay the bills they're doing a bunch of rush stuff to fix it

Yeah I've been currently on alternatives like Spoutible, Mastodon, Pillowfort, and still on Facebook. I requested Blue Sky but havent received a response yet...dude should've really just kept his fucking mouth shut- he could've saved [himself] 44 billion dollars; through his treatment of Twitter, it's painfully obvious he has no idea what he's doing. I have Tumblr, but havent been back since I checked in back in January...I feel like Tumblr will never get back what it lost.

Instagram isnt what it used to be- and though I've been on there since 2018 it feels like it's been shorter than that.

ATM I have a Tumblr as a back up and I occasionally use Reddit Twitter for the most part has been very good for me other than the time it removed my ability to click like for a few hours <.<;

Well, as someone who does not have a twitter account, it has become completely unusable to me since it wants me to login in before viewing anything.
