Well, twitter is back as always now.
It seems that Elmo was lying his way out of a grave mistake handling the site when he came with the excuse of the view limits (again).

I understand that different countries have different economy levels. But saying it should be free is not a solution. You want a service to help you make money for free. Think about what you are asking. Would you work for free? By your post you don't want to. Please note for most of Twitter's existence it never made a profit. You can't run a company like that.

also note Elon didn't buy it until 2022.

the site hosts advertisers and other companies generating revenue internally as well as advertisements and other promoted tweets/content. so there's definitely money being made for the site. like there were definitely people paying for certain things long before the buyout, this new fee is simply a guy who made a bad business deal trying to make up for lost finances and not really doing a great job at it since he can't run his own site and fired most of the folks who do know how

Sure, these kind souls on Twitter just continued working for 20 years for free just for the hell of it. If Twitter wouldn't generate any profit, they would shut it immediately.

It's called venture capitalist. You get investors to give you money on the promise that in the future you will make money. It is Netflix's business model.

Why are you trying to argue with people that people should pay for something that they don't feel is worth it's price tag? Twitter isn't a necessity like food or shelter, it's a piece of entertainment. People can live without Twitter. People shouldn't be shamed into buying something they don't want just to "support" the hard working people of the company. That's why countries like the US suffer from hyper-consumerism, because the stupid illogical guilt push on people to buy more! buy more! buy more!.

If twitter is important to you, pay the $8 and then you can post/ read/ etc to your hearts content. Just think how cheap $8 is. It's less than a meal at McDonalds. If you think it's not worth $8, then you don't value Twitter as a product and find something else.

FWIW, limits recently raised to 10k, 1k & 0.5k for verified, unverified & new unverified.

@Ordinaryaverageguy the "limit" (as was mentioned above) was actually a cover up for some bad internal management and coding that made the site nearly break itself and this far has been pretty normal for me to use, so for the time being it's not as much a concern anymore.

Would you work for free? By your post you don't want to.

Personally, I am totally fine with people benefitting off my labour without compensation if it's something I was already willing to do without the promise of compensation. Making something then wanting people to pay you for it is not the same thing as making something specifically because someone hired you to make it, then getting mad when they fail to pay you as promised, imo

Threads is the new platform by instagram. A direct competitor of Twitter. That being said it is not ready for use if you ask me. Current score on android store is 3.3 stars.

It is a good app from what I can see but it has a few problems like algorithm not letting you see your following list. Stuff like that. It does have other advantages over twitter. But it just got released a few days ago. I am watching the app like a hawk to see when the next update hits the paltform and waiting for the main problems people complain about to be fixed.

I will still use twitter since it doesn't hurt me in any way. But I want threads to suceed to also create a new account.

Another down side of threads is that you need an instagram account and you can't delete your account without deleting your instagram account. (Doesn't bother me tbh but it is one of the main complaints of the platform besides having no website and being 100% an app for now).

As much as I like instagram for it’s UI, I do not trust Facebook or “meta” for any sustainable social media platform after how garbage Facebook and Instagram has become in their attempts to make money

Moving to another platform and getting subscribers there is never easy, so while my Twitter numbers are pretty ridiculous and I dislike this place deeply, a couple of cool artists are subbed on me there and it was also only possible, because a. Most cool artists are there b. Twitter is basically the only platform right now with NSFW art from the awesome creators not under paywall.

THIS. I dont have tons of followers, but the folks I do move in circles with are pretty cool. I hate that I'm most likely going to lose touch with a lot of them if Twitter shuts down or if I leave coz the spamming ads and racists become overwhelming [again].

@Katzalcoatl I'm not doing Threads. I'm already hearing it's the same ol Facebook/Instagram Zuckerfuck content...I deal with Facebook & IG because I choose to; I don't care to deal with a third helping of Zuck stew.

But yeah, for the time being, I'll still use Twitter...I'm just hoping one of the alternatives takes off so that I can jettison that MFer like space debris.
