Oh I've had to censor my comic big time on webtoon and still got some pages taken down for "nudity" (even though no genitalia or ass was present...) All of my content is intended for adult audiences.
I think Tapas handled the issue much better, all things considered. They organized things in such a manner that we can still post our content on their site, fans can still find us (many are aware that mature content can't be found on the app, at least not on the apple version, thanks to tapas recent mature premium section and the notes that bigger NSFW creators have put up about it) and they are still able to keep their app which opens the site to being used by a larger amount of people. If they sacrificed the app for the sake of nsfw creators they would not only have shot themselves in the foot, but us too as non-nsfw creators would have given us a big part of the blame for it.
All of that being said however, lets remember that back in the old day, people didn't have the privilege we have now. Either you made your own site (costs money and time), you pitched to a publishing company (means you need to fit their wishes, which closes out a lot of creators. Primarily lgbt art, but a lot of other minority art and less popular content too.), or you invested in your own publishing which was financially risky. Fourth option is of course just making your comic and keeping it to yourself. Many of even the smallest creators on any webcomic platform have more readers than what number 4 would have given them back then.
All things considered, tapas and webtoon don't owe us anything and we don't owe them anything. They're just platforms that are beneficial to us to an extent that is pretty much in immediate relation to how beneficial we are to them.
