Raise your hand if your OC raised someone who was not their biological child.

If we count the fact that Alicia was basically the sole caregiver of her little brother for about three months when she was 13, because their father left them and their mother was off...doing things, then the answer is yes. She has been the sole caregiver of someone other than her own biological child.

Essence is also currently raising one of her cousin's children. This was more surprising for her, because she'd never even met the kid before.

For Apparent Secrets, a few characters can raise their hands:

  • Iris: She "raised" her sister, Lily, since she was little. Their mother, Amaranth took ill through much of Iris's life and counted on Iris to help keep Lily cared for. Lily resents Iris and treats her poorly in her adult life, often taking advantage of their strained relationship to get what she wants.

  • Yamenn: He's the adoptive father of Zayzann, who he took into his care when Zayzann was orphaned as a fledgling. Zayzann was old enough to remember his parents, but not old enough to understand how and why they died at the time. Yamenn's done his best ever since to provide the love and care that Zay's parents weren't able to.

  • Khazmine: In her younger days as an organic, Khazmine rescued a pair of young boys from the slums and raised them as her "little brothers." Though not the same race as Khazmine, she swears by their "family resemblance." Taking care of her little brothers was one of the few joys in her early life.

this is definitely a quirky name for a person to have XD

for ToV

Ozwald and Malika raise their younger twin brothers after the death of their mom, and on volume two a few other character can raise their hands

For the Journey

Yun is the primary caregiver for kids but we will learn more about that in later updates

Oh yeah. Apparent Secrets is full of flower names.
Iris, Lily, and Amaranth are all from the same family.
We also have a Violet in the office, and a Heather later on in Book Two.

YAY I LOVE TALKING ABOUT MY MONSTER GILMORE GIRLS
Sadie(fairy/black woman) adopted Andy(werewolf/titanium white) in the 1800s(not a fun time to be a woman or POC much less adopt and be adopted by one)
I go into the origins of how they met but all you need to know for now is Andy appeared in Sadie’s life when Sadie really needed someone to love and when Andy needed someone to love her.

I noticed XD. Is Khazmine a play on Jasmine btw?

this is much the way it is for Ayla and Essence as well

2 :Raise your hand if your character went from Rags to Riches

Alicia definitely went rags to riches. She grew up pretty poor as her father was a carpenter who made enough to care for his family but not for a whole lot of extras. Then after her parents separated she was a hand-me-down kid living with her aunt in a cramped apartment and living on a lot of government aid to get by. Now she's more loaded than even she realized, able to buy a house flat out with it barely taking a dent out of her savings.

Mrs. Moon is even more rags-to-riches than Alicia, because she pulled herself up by her own bootstraps, from a homeless immigrant in her early childhood to a wealthy businesswoman, owner and CEO of her own multi-million dollar magazine "Gossamer and Ambergris"

Dominic's parents aren't exactly rich, but they were first gen Americans, and his grandparents worked their way up from the bottom until they are very comfortable now. His family owns a convenience store, and are in the upper-middle class now.

3: Raise your hands if your main couple are friends-to-lovers

Alicia and Kattar are a friends-to-lovers couples. They took a very long time to get to this point, as they've been friends since they were both 13, and Kattar is now nearly 29.

Chili and Texas are also a friends to lovers couple. but their process over all is much faster, as they've only know each other for a little less than a year when the story starts, and are already pretty clear on their feelings for each other

Zayzann is my "most human" alien OC:

(original on left)

Daecon thought he was human right up until he found out that he wasn’t. While in human form his only giveaways would be his pointed, elf-like ears and larger-than-normal canine teeth.

Of course he discovered that he wasn’t quite human when a huge pair of wings erupted from his back…

OC by show of Hands: #4: Raise your hand if your OC has recently moved to a new location at the start of the story

The new kid thing is a common way to start your story right?

Mora has been in her new town for almost 6 weeks when the story starts

5: Raise your hand if your OC is the only person of their species/with the powers they have that they know when the story starts

so, the thing is, Mora DID know other mermaids, because her grandmother was a mermaid, but she's living with a sort of 'foster family' since she lost her grandmother, and that's how the story starts.
