But those biggest earners on patreon are doing really NSFW stuff, what are they going to do with it? Getting rid of them means eventual investor loss....

"Grandpa, you're on the Board of Directors at Patreon, right?"
"That's right, kiddo. It's great being involved with a company that helps people make a living doing what they love."
"Yeah, there's a lot of great stuff on there. I really love all the people who draw big ol' anime tiddies..."
spits out coffee "PFFFWHAT?!"

And thus Patreon outlawed an entire art style.

It's true, but they might be wanting to make up for that with ad revenue from big companies, who are unwilling to advertise on a platform along side nsfw content (basically what tumblr did).

yeah. i have like an anime/american style, and I'm pretty well draw my characters to look mature, but apparently it doesn't matter because it's anime. Yeah I'm not thrilled with Patreon's decision atm, even less so if I get flagged for pedo anime art for drawing adult characters.

Yea I started using this after I expedited my membership. Still trying to think about a business model though.

Patreon has been sketch for a while, but its good to have both a substar and a patreon since LOTS of people still use patreon. Theres a lot of people who refused to support creators on patreon cause they dont want to support patreon itself, having a substar allows for these people to continue to support you without having to feel weird about patreon.

the NSFW stuff is new to me tho, gonna be super weird since NSFW only stuff is one of the main reasons to use patreon.

Out of context but I'm LMAO to the kids in comments protecting their loli hentai as if the cure of coronavirus would depend of their moe girls yealling KYAAAAA!!

Is there a specific style preference for stuff like Patreon? I might be screwed then, my style is like if you took the director of Blade Runner and A Very Long Engagement, and made it anime style. And still somehow look more like anime.

What if you use Patreon and post your NSFW content elsewhere? Because that’s what I do. I don’t think Patreon has a good organization system when it comes to comics so I have my own hosting that is locked from outside and only accessible to Patreon.
So do you think that will still be an issue? If content is only advertised and then linked back to a website?

Not sure but.... sounds like a good idea to me, considering that I also do dirty comics. What setup do you use for yours?

I use Wordpress. since I know how to build Wordpress website I built a Wordpress-multisite ( Which is one website with other websites in them. you can have unlimited I think) so far I only have 3 comics hosted with the 4th one coming soon.

this way, all I post on Patreon are the access code which I change with each update so if a Patreon were to unsubscribe, before the next update, they don't gain access to it. its been over a year and half since I've been doing this and it works like a charm and all my files are organized. I only do this for comics. every other incentive stays on Patreon.

Wait, is this like a separate version of SubscribeStar but for adult content only?

re:patreon
I read on twitter people said that Patreon demanded access to some creator's Google Drive to make sure that the content they're sharing was within TOS. Someone else's twitter was policed for the same reasons. This time around they legit made an issue out of a drawn character's face(!) looking too young, nvm big tiddy or whatever other signs that they're not a child. Japanese twitter blew up calling Patreon racist because that was basically an attack on anime style in general. The situation with them isn't looking good and I've been thinking about moving somewhere as well.

I found an excellent thread which explains the bigger picture here: blame all the payment providers.

Seems like if you set up your account for 18+ it is posted on subscribestar.adult. Yeah the big payment providers are dicks about adult content.

jfc..... The situation reminds me of the whole Google/Apple micro-controlling all the content on Tapas and WT and thus hurting creators.

This is why these huge corporations are so harmful. No competition means they can just do and say whatever they want and everyone else has no choice but to obey it.

I've been giving it some thought, I might not have subscribe star affiliated with my youtube channel. Maybe some other avenue.

I feel like subscription services open you open to people without your best interest, or even integrity sometimes, in mind and tempt some people to follow where the money is, rather than where genuine beliefs are.

It's not as much of a problem in web comic communities, but it's a real problem with youtube channels these days. Money should never be a factor in determining what beliefs you express.

I realize I'm broke. But I would rather be broke, that express genuinely immoral beliefs, and push people in certain directions, I don't generally hold myself.

subscribestar works with the same payment providers. I wouldnt be surprised if they put the same restrictions as soon as subscribestar gets big enough to draw maistream attention as much as patreon

SubscribeStar already had its own shitstorm which caused PayPal to stop working with them. It happened after Patreon deplatformed a bunch of right-wing people, a lot of them moved to SubscribeStar, there was a lot of drama on all sides, and PayPal decided to cut the ties.

Btw, I looked at SubStar's faq and it says that you can only request payout starting with $150... Which means that a lot of creators won't see their money for AT LEAST a year after starting :sip: :joy:
