[Poll] What's important to you when make a new chapter for your novel/comic? Views, Like, or comment?

since silent readers are pretty common and thus comments can be pretty rare i usually put the most value in likes. it's a simple engagement and gives metric to what content is doing well or not (at least imo)

Comments are definitely super nice to get but as a silent reader myself i don't put much expectation on readers to leave them

100% second this about views:

View is difficult to measure because me rechecking my chapter or replying to comments will register as extra views, I do not trust it as much as likes and comments.

Comments make me the happiest, as it shows people are genuinely engaging with the story. Likes and views are good too, but I’m a slut for some thoughtful quality feedback lol

I put the most value in comments because it brings me the most joy. I love hearing what people think I'm doing well, what catches their attention, what theories they're developing, and any feedback that might make my series better.

I don't really care about views, but I do find those metrics interesting because I can see the sudden drop off of people who check out the series and don't read past the first couple episodes.

Views. I use weebtoons and tapas only for their episodic UI.

There are many silent readers and supporters and I want them to feel comfortable with that.

While I love comments and likes, I have had the most random readers 30-something episodes in all of a sudden comment some great comment. That person has been reading the whole time, and reads each episode as soon as it comes out, they just don't interact. Some people aren't social and don't want to be. So I love comments and likes, and obviously that helps me in the algorithm, but I care more that I get the consistent numbers of views episode to episode. I figure if they didn't like reading it, they would have stopped by now.

Views, at their base level, show activity. The same with "likes" to a degree and can be used as a way to "knowledge" that you've read a chapter. I like comments because they mean that I've envoked a reaction.

Same here. As a silent reader, I feel I cant comment properly and sometimes I dont want to repeat myself or what someone's else said so I leave you my heart as a sign of how much I liked what you did as an author and I feel happy to see hearts in my work, I would feel bad if someone makes a forced comment just to make me happy but if you wanna comment I would be happy as well

I think I'm gonna go with likes. It's an easy way to tell if someone is enjoying my content. I know comments are technically better, but sometimes there's just no words and there's not much I can do about that.

Since I post to webtoon as well, they don't notify creators on comments so I won't even be able to tell if I got any in the first place. By the time I discover a comment it's already several months to a year old.

For me, it's comments. A lot of times, I'm happy with the way my story is going, but I do doubt myself on whether anyone else is enjoying the story as much as I do. So, it helps when readers leave comments because I know that people are actually interested in reading it! Also, never hurts to communicate with my readers/ subscribers~!

I like comments because it tells what my readers are thinking when they finish a chapter. I want to know if they liked it, are they curious about something, what things they liked about it, who is their favorite character, etc.

Comments, by FAR! Everything else is appreciated, of course, but comments are what make me super excited every second Wednesday when my episodes go up. I love receiving them, I love seeing peoples reactions to events, I love responding to them. They're the best kind of feedback.

But I force my friends to read my each chapter before publishing and even a simple feedback really helps.

Comments are by far the best to receive, but fewer readers leave them so I think likes are a better measure for audience engagement.

likes and views are great for algorithm purposes.. but they are such detatched numbers, that they dont really give me much in terms of dopamine

but comments? and when people start to comment on other peoples comments and there's jokes and just ppl interacting and having a good time?

that's what really makes me enjoy posting and creating

BUT I totally get it when people don't enjoy leaving comments.
it does take time and effort. so I don't blame anyone for just scrolling through. just because they don't take action to show that they enjoyed it, doesn't mean they didn't

Comments are definitely my favorite thing ever they help me figure out whether a joke worked the way I intended it to, if the plot is clear enough to my readers and, in general, what people think of my story overall. Of course, I understand that not everybody may want to leave a comment and/or know what to write, so likes come as a close second favorite too. I usually interpret them as something along the lines of "I read your update and I like what you're doing, keep going!" so it still gives me all sorts of warm fuzzy feelings when I get a "like" notification.

Views, on the other hand... gotta admit I don't consider them that much XD ESPECIALLY on sites like Tapas/Webtoon, since they're mostly app based, so I usually assume that the majority of people visiting my comic also have an account. If they just look at my comic and never bother to interact in any way, shape or form, I usually end up thinking that they simply don't care. It's a little different on ComicFury, since I'm pretty sure most readers on there don't even have an account and "likes" do not exist... in that case, I'm more willing to consider views as a sign of engagement. Otherwise... not so much.

I like everything; honestly, I like when I see views and likes; it feels like my narrative is being noticed and travelling far and wide. However, comments warm my heart in a way I cannot put words to it xD

This poll made me gain an appreciation for silent readers. I agree with the views. I don't trust the stats as much so Likes is probably the healthiest stat to go by.
