@aqua03

Not at all. I was extremely upset about it for a while (since the comic was about as personal of a thing as it could be), but after I got over that I just found it hilarious.

Yeah, it's like they were thinking. "I think this guy sucks, but I don't wanna seem too mean about it..." The juxtaposition is kind of hilarious in a way.

Oh god... O.O
I feel so sorry for you. These people must be really troubled. I can not imagine they are normal people... Just some brain-dead with hate about other things and they just had to hit it on something.
I think it is not lazy at all to make a comic like this. I think I have a reliable point of view, because I draw and also work with 3D models, so I'm able to compare. To make a great pose in 3d is sometimes as hard or even harder then make it from one point of view. If you don't understand the pose enough it will be visible. And also, you can not cheat with measurements as much as in 2D. Sometimes when I make a sketch in 2D and try to replicate in 3D I realize my idea wasn't correct, but looked correct because it contained cheating.
Your program also requires big amount of effort and time. But if it wouldn't, still bullshit what these guys commented, because if somebody want to tell a story in comic form, she/he has any rights to do it by using any related available program. Doesn't matter how easy it considered...
To make a sandwich from bread and jam is also easy, but I should eat it because of that...? wuuuut?

Sorry about the thread revival if it offends... can't imagine it would in this case.

I once received:

"This chapter sucks, so do you, and so does Philip."

My chapter had no Philip. I don't know any Philip. I was tempted to ask. I was also tempted to write a short story about that comment. I resisted both impulses.

Oh, heck, I would have asked: "Who's Philip?! :O"

I mean, we can talk about how much I suck and my stuff too, but it's not polite talking about how much Philip sucks behind his back -crosses arms-

Honestly, asking after that sort of stuff is one of my favorite games. Playing innocent/ignorant, especially in the face of someone that incoherently irate is a very special kind of joy. I'll be if you'd innocently ask "Wait, Phillip? Who's that?" or something, they'd start screaming about something. My money's on them either mis-remembering something or confusing yours with someone else's and still blaming you somehow.

Oh, yeah. Trolls want your reaction, so that's why always people say to ignore them. But they want your bad reaction, if you respond nicely, the troll gets trolled.

Only thing is you have to be sure you'll be able to handle the stress and keep the niceness till the end, because if at any moment you break and tell them off, they win.

It's oratory.

The comments I have received haven’t been online, but in person. They aren’t terrible, just agitating. I had one kid, who was kind of prideful and ignorant, come up to me and watch me draw my main character and say something along the lines of, “You need to make the hair spikier. Then it will look more like anime.” It just bugged me because I don’t think he was really into manga/anime, and me and him had never really been on good terms.

That's the good old spontaneous.

Staring at them usually works to make them go. No need of a bad face or anything, you can even smile at them.

Just a bot comment. I new here so I geniunely thought it was someone interested in my story, what a fake joy. Anyway they deleted their comment.

I know I'm kinda late to this but think it depends on how you word it. If you want to be on the safe side, just be sure to word it as a compliment. Different creators' characters, stories and art style can have some similarities but still be original and unique, so if you think the creators' work is original and creative, just say so. It's not that much extra effort and it's a lot clearer than just "That reminds me of X", and I'm sure the creators will appreciate it.

On tumblr I got:
Omg. Jus no. Fanfic is da cringe,, 4 crimgy peeps liek u
Still not sure what they think my novel is a fanfic of???

I don't think I've ever gotten a bad comment (I actually love every single one I got so far 🥺). I guess the "worst" I ever got was something along the lines of "nice art here's mine" on reddit or "gr8 content :fire::fire::fire::fire: pls check out my profile :revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts:" on Instagram where it's clear they didn't even look at my work. But I don't really get mad at those tbh, they're to be expected and more of a byproduct of shitty algorithms on most platforms imo.

BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED TO ME! Lol some of us (me) are stupid and actually moved forward with a shitty publishing deal because i was really excited and thought it was real
