I don't know about anybody else, but in some ways I have personally had a COLOSSALLY bad year, and I want to vent. So, let's have a thread for gripes! Let's get all of our petty frustrations off our collective chests!

First, some ground rules:

  1. Pettiness is encouraged, vindictiveness is not.

  2. If you are going to reply to somebody's specific gripe in this thread, agreements are allowed, rebuttals are not. You can, however, make an original opposing gripe. EDIT: To clarify, any disagreement must be in the form of a gripe in your own post.

  3. All forum content rules apply (no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.)

  4. Gripes are not limited to things this from year.

And those should keep this nice, fun, playful, and cathartic. Post your gripes here!

I hate it when I spend a lot of tiem getting my instagram post ready with all my tags nicely gathered and prepped, only for inbsta to fall on its face and die, positing my art with a blank description and no tages....

My gripes:

  • Youtubers need to stop using the word "destroyed" in their titles. Somebody disagreeing with somebody else is NOT "destroying" them. And you can't actually discredit somebody without not only being right, but being able to prove it beyond all reasonable doubt with EVIDENCE.

  • Modern Star Trek is way too bloodthirsty. Admiral Picard and the people around him should not be killing people as easily as they do. Seriously, there was a time when "set phasers to kill" was an "Oh SHIT!" level of escalation. Now, it's just the standard starting point.

  • Anime needs more adult protagonists. Truck-kun is allowed to hit and isekai grown-ups too.

  • Western media today is WAY too mean-spirited. When the spirit of the age can be described as "Schadenfreude," something has gone very, very wrong. Franchises self-destructing should not be cause for celebration on Youtube.

  • Grimdark is full of shit. So is blanket cynicism. Optimism IS a viable and necessary part of life, and we CAN make the world a better place by trying to do so.

  • There aren't enough remote controlled tank videos. RC tanks are awesome, and insanely fun, and more people need to know about them. Like my new Canadian Leopard 2 tank...and my Girls und Panzer Tiger I and Stug III...WITNESS MY RC TANK CORNER!...er...um...sorry, got a bit carried away there.

  • Catching every single cold that comes in your general direction sucks ass.

  • Facebook is a black box that doesn't work. Seriously, if you have a button that is supposed to send an email that will allow you to verify your identity and regain access to your Facebook page after forgetting to update your cell phone number for two factor authentication, pressing the button should actually SEND A FUCKING EMAIL! On a related note, I am no longer using Facebook...

Damn, that feels better...

I want to make a video ranting about Instagram but to keep it brief Instagram has become a full time job, if I'm not posting reels or paying for sponsored post I'm bleeding followers. I'm seeing more growth on my YouTube and TikTok than I am on the platform I consider home. I'm never entirely sure weather if it's because I'm not doing something correctly like finding a niche or commenting frequently enough or weather its because I'm just a bad artist or both.

Also I'm still struggling when it comes to creating webcomics, mainly because of formatting and exporting issues. Maybe it's because my comics are super long and heavy but there have been a lot of times where I've pushed my computer and photoshop a little too hard and loose some progress. I think this is mainly just a learning curb and I think I'm getting over that.

Also my art, but my art has always been an issue.

This year is better than last year but these issues sort of carried over from last year which was an absolutely horrible year.

Bubble tea is disgusting. I tried it and I just couldn't finish a cup

Candidate recruiters on LinkedIn suck ass big time. Only a small part of them genuinely do their job well, the rest only chase money

(If you happen to be a recruiter, I don't mean to offend you. It just so happens that in my interactions with recruiters only two genuinely saw me as more than a number)

Also LinkedIn is a boring as hell platform

Oh yeah lastly media could use some autistic rep, I haven't seen it a lot

Splatoon 3's Big Run event has honestly been kinda mid

I'm upset Sonic Frontiers didn't get into any other categories for the game awards except for player's choice and then lost to genshin of all titles

seeing a lot of divisiveness on social media has been way to draining

then on the other hand toxic positivity has been exhausting

i'm kinda sad that i feel like i didn't get a whole lot of art done

genuinely think that quality of life for retail work (and workers) is really spiraling down the drain and for every good thing some place offers there's like several hidden downsides and people expect you to just deal with it than supporting calls for change

the whole thing with twitter super blew out a good chunk of my motivation to do creative stuff and i don't appreciate that emotional inconvenience TTvTT

i also havent been able to find good peanut brittle in years and i'm losing hope in the chance for the one store that had it to come back to my area mall :cry_02:

So I definitely have some larger gripes, but to keep it lighter:

  1. whenever jeopardy is cancelled or postponed for sports. not cool

  2. The newspaper my family orders forgot to include the crossword twice this year. Also not cool!

  3. los espookies is such a great series! why is each season so short??

  4. why don’t more cats in my neighborhood understand that I want to be friends? Kind of rude tbh.

  5. Why is German grammar so hard to learn? Why do the words not have clear clues as to their gender like spanish? You just have to memorize the gender of every word?? and what is case?? Do I look like I know what a direct or indirect object is??

  6. Adding onto @DualDragons ā€˜s comment, I find linkedin influencers even more obnoxious than other social media influencers (no offense if there are any here. Sometimes they do have good insights)

  7. Photoshop’s whole business model these days. Today I saw a 1 year subscription for sale that cost about the same as the program used to cost to own and use forever. I’ll be sticking to elements and clip studio I guess.

8.This is super old news, but the fact that Nintendo Power magazine went out of business the year I finally got a subscription. I really liked that magazine :slight_frown:

I missed so, so many figure skating sessions to POTS/orthostatic hypotension/whatever this year. But it used to be that I would only go a few days without skating, back during summer and the first part of the year when I was still in high school.

Once I started college in the fall, I could only skate twice a week because of the way my schedule was arranged. So missing a few days because of a POTS episode went to missing a few weeks of skating because of it, sometimes almost a month.

Just in general, my chronic illness has been getting worse over the past few years, and it makes me want to throw things like an angry gorilla.

Same hat, my dude. Same hat. I also personally want more OSDDID rep too (and neurodivergent rep in general)

Yeah, I know Errant here on tapas has autistic rep and I know Overwatch has one too, aside from that I know no other reps (though I live under a rock so bare with me)

Also I hated Rain Man with a passion when I watched it as a kid, in fact I didn't finish the movie

I really enjoyed Mario and Rabbids game and I feel sort of disappointed that most tactical RPGs have semi-renaissance fantasy anime aesthetics, it’s just a style I do not like.

on nintendo power im sad i never got to sub much less get a backorder and sure theres the podcast but its not the same

Phahaha bro I didn't expect to find someone here with my problems, yet here I am. We can do it. I don't know hooooow because it's such a mess (for gods' sake, I know Russian and Chinese, how can it possibly be worse than this?? This sentence structure is tearing me apart), but we can :fist:

We all learned our native languages pretty well before anyone started trying to dissect sentence structure & categorize & name different parts of speech. Perhaps the natural way is to just immerse in it as much as possible & make mistakes & receive correction. I hated that French had to assign gender to all inanimate objects without rules to help decide.

  • Youtubers need to stop using the word "destroyed" in their titles.

YES! Someone else hates that!!

  • Modern Star Trek is way too bloodthirsty.

I gave up on ST a long time ago. It seems there's a point at which we need to walk away from most series, before they disappoint us & even the good times are dimmed by the shoddy work that came after.

MY GRIPE for today: Readers who consume the entire series but cannot find the LIKE button. (yeah, yeah, maybe it DID suck for them & they're just masochists, but even a masochist ought to admit they liked the suffering, right??)

Oh, I didn’t know there’s a podcast! But yeah, I wanna look at the pretty pictures dagnabbit!

Glad to hear someone else is on the German struggle bus with me! I’m impressed that you know Chinese! I want to learn Russian after I get better at German. Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh, so French does that too! On top of the difficult spelling! And yeah, immersion is the way to go. That’s how I got better at Spanish.

@Ordinaryaverageguy I guess some patterns are just easier to locate/comprehend than the others and it probably depends on how different we all learn. I learned French too and it made like so much more sense x) you are completely right, of course, the immersion is the best way for sure.

@OLDSAGGY hey, ask me any time if you will help with that one

Not recent, but it's definitely a personal realization I've had.

Being on social media used to be fun, man.. Everything somehow feels a competition or a depressing news cycle or a heated debate or a pointless TV channel to waste your time on. It's honestly kinda tiring. As much as I've grown out of liking it, it's also hard to pull away from it too. That's just how it is now, everything's designed to keep you engaged with the platform as much as possible.

I guess it's given me a greater appreciation for actually interacting with others in person and experiencing stuff on my own as opposed to sharing stuff with others. But I kinda wish this didn't come at the cost of my enjoyment of social media, y'know?
