Potential Idea. Not a comic, but something a bit "different"

I have an idea that I would like to have evaluated. I would like to one day see this become an actual project that I would publish onto Tapastic. Please critique and evaluate.

It goes something like this:

I am terrible with art, I won't lie. When using a physical medium like pencil and paper, my results would allow me to barely scrape by in art class. When using a digital art form, I might as well give up being an artist altogether. So how about instead of laboring away at something that I will only improve at if a divine exorcism is performed, I act as a critic of it instead. Fans of CinemaSins will be able to see where I'm going with this.

Essentially, CinemaSins is exactly what it sounds like, a YouTube show that critiques and, often humorously, identifies mistakes large and minute regarding films. How about taking the famous sarcasm and cynicism of CinemaSins and thrusting it into Tapastic?

All I would do is take a comic of my choosing and berate it for whatever faults I can find, whether it be the art style, story, anything that I could find and make a joke/critique about. To ensure no one's "feelings" get hurt (seriously, what the heck are feelings, eh?), I'd get permission from the authors to take some of their work and use as visuals, examples, etc.

Layout would essentially be as follows (subject to change, duh):

(Insert Comic Page/Strip)
(Photoshop a black bar at the bottom)
(Write critique and identify all flaws and faults with said strip, adding in a punchline or two somewhere, within the black bar)

More Visual Example:

(Insert a random Torakun14 Comic)
("This thing's head is TOO DAMN BIG. Like, honestly, I could fit George Clooney's ego in there and still have room. Damn.)

(Insert a random Znoflats Comic)
(I find this highly offensive, and yet, I'm okay with that. AND I AM NOT OKAY WITH THAT.)

(Insert a random Strays Comic)
(Hey let's make this guy have a cheap cop-out for not talking, that'll make the reader sympathize with the character and make him not look like a dick. Hoorah! silent scoffing)

I'mmmmmmm gonna vote no. Think about the difference between bashing a top level Hollywood star versus bashing an aspiring performer who's never been in any official film despite their continued efforts. Even if the creator themselves may be okay, I'd think most of the readers would feel uncomfortable laughing at such jokes.

That said, it depends on how you brand the "critic character." If the critic character (not you as a person) is presented as a dumb, offensive person, then readers might end up laughing at the critic rather than the comic that's being criticized, and you might be able to create successful entertainment that way?

In all seriousness, this wouldn't be to really "offend" anybody (can't take the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen). I was thinking of doing a "satire" thing, essentially being so stupidly picky and critical, being so over-the-top with it that it transcends actual constructive criticism and satirizes critics and the level of depth they take things.

What's the point? Do you just want something to do? Honestly most readers do that anyway, so I'm not sure the point in trying to be the onion of webcomics except you just want to be noticed. I'm not trying to be an ass-hat I'm serious.

P.S. I'm pretty sure you can just review comics but hey whatevs. I already know what I fail at.

Cinemasins is pretty fun, and as long as the creator gives permission I don't see a huge problem (now if you just chose random comics without them even knowing, then we'd have more of a problem)

Personally, I don't really see this as something that would be worthwhile. The internet is a pretty negative place to spend time in as it is, and your idea would add absolutely nothing other than more negativity.

You say you're going to obtain people's permission - and that's good! - but honestly, I don't really see this as making any positive impact at all. I mean, people have a hard enough time already plucking up the courage to do something creative and sharing it with the world - with this bashing project around, they'll just get even more discouraged. Even when you're not directly bashing them. The internet has some big issues right now with being very unwelcoming (Gamergate, Reddit's recent meltdown due to the banning of hate-group subreddits, etc., etc.), and your idea is just contributing more to an atmosphere of negativity.

Critique is one thing, and certainly has its place in webcomics - and critique is allowed to be harsh when it needs to be - but you're not intending to critique. You're intending to bash, which is something entirely different, and I don't feel it really fits into the general atmosphere here on Tapastic. Tapastic stands out to me as one of the few genuinely positive and welcoming places on the internet - your idea runs very contrary to that.

Also, you seem to be responding to every "no"-post in this thread with the textual equivalent to flipping the bird at people. If you can't take the feedback, get out of the kitchen, was it?

Also that Reddit meltdown was quite the show to watch, I mean, it helped me discover so many wonderful subreddits I felt enlightened at that point.

I love stuff like MST3k and Retsupurae so I get what you're going for, but just showing someone else's page with a snarky comment seems a bit too low effort to me. I mean, you would accomplish the same thing by posting comments on that person's post.
That said, I don't have much of a clue what a comic version of MST would look like. Perhaps it would be more fitting to have it actually be in comic form, like superimpose your characters who are "watching" the comic in question and providing running commentary (like the MST "shadowrama"). In general I think you should look at providing more content than just a comment.

Oh yeah, also when you're shitting on someone else's content, you better be sure that you're really, really, REALLY effing funny, original, and humble. Parody and satire are nowhere as easy as they look, it's as huge as the difference between "Airplane!" and "Epic Movie".

Big no. And before you go "to each their own" or "WELL I'M GONNA DO IT ANYWAY", then what's even the point of this thread? You've already started to piss some off, it's definitely gonna be no good if you decide to do an idea like this.

Bashing Hollywood films that get bashed every day but still make millions upon millions of dollars is so much different than bashing artists who are doing their comics either for fun, for money, or for whatever other reason they have. Last thing I'd want - even if it was out of jest - to see some guy strut about listing off faults with my comic, because then the COMMUNITY gets involved with it, and then eventually everyone just starts noticing the faults in the comics as they read more and more, and eventually give up. That's what I see happening. That's another difference between a Hollywood film and a webcomic - the film has finished, most people have seen it by the time they're watching the sins, so it's funny to go back and see what silly things they missed. Most webcomics are not finished - you've now put that air of "let's find what's wrong today!" into the readers' minds and they'll only read the webcomics to find what's wrong with it, which is not the intended purpose of reading a webcomic.

And trust me, once you get one reader going on it, you've got a whole bandwagon of them going on it. It's happened to me before, it's unpleasant, and really disheartening.

We've got a great community here at Tapastic and a lot of people - myself included - are pretty damn thankful that there aren't any toxic people in it that go after creators just to be mean or trolls or whatever. I highly doubt anyone would give you their permission to do that sorta thing (and you'd need their permission. No if's, and's, or but's about it).

So no. Big, big, BIG no. Don't even bother replying to this if you're just gonna say something like "WELL DURHUR GONNA DO IT ANYWAY", because again, then this whole "feedback" thread as you call it is just a "HEY LOOK AT WHAT I'M GOING TO DO AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, HUEHUEHUE" thread. In which case, you're not gonna last long here.
