Prefer Long or Short Webcomics?

My stance is that in writing I prefer a short and sweet one since I finish quicker (I'm lazy), but as a reader I lean more towards the long side of things, even when the story gets a bit boring it jumps right back to being interesting usually/eventually.

I usually sign onto stories for the long haul, so i love long-form comics whose plot spans 1000+ pages (I’m writing one myself!) often because a longer format allows the comicker to improve vastly over time, and really delve into the story without rushing it

That being said, i wont keep with daily comics/gag strips that are that long because they get so goddamn repetitive

Honestly, I just love indulging in a good story with stellar artwork to match :'DD
I don't really care when it ends... as long as I'm there to see it!!

as far as writing goes... I don't know that I would survive a 5000+ page comic, or that any of my stories are actually THAT long.

I'm someone who likes it in the middle. I've seen plenty of comics/mangas that just dragged on and sorta ended abruptly (granted, a lot of them had interference from outside sources, and as a reader and creator, I take a lot of that into account). Some even have filler, which can confuse the reader with where the storyline is going.

Then there are those that are too short, and I'm left with a lot of questions that most likely should've been answered in the story (again, outside sources can play a part in that, especially if a creator is rushed).

I think, in the end, as long as I know what the story is and I see the characters grow over time, I'm all for it -- whether it's long or short.

I know I have a few stories that are both. One story I have (Tainted Tears, Tainted Perspective) is like 10 chapters or so long. But another one I have (DOLLS) has over 260 chapters in the making. I guess it all depends on how much you needed to develop the story ad its characters

Doesn't really matter for me! As long as I find the characters interesting, I'll stick with them till the end of time

Depends. I think a story should be as long as it needs to be, No more, no less. No rushing, no filler.

I like both, but I do leen more to the longer ones. Aslong they aren't One Piece long cuz that is to much...

I generally prefer long webcomics! Most of the webcomics I read are ones that have been going on for years. Being able to check back on a regular basis for more story is very enjoyable to me, haha.

I prefer longer ones, especially if they're good, only because I tend to get really attached to ones I like and then really check back and want them to continue. It's always so sad when good things come to an end.

As a kid, I grew up on Calvin & Hobbes, Bloom County and the other newspaper funnies. As a reader, I like short comics (4-8 panels). In and out and on to reading the next comic.

Hm, I do really like one-shots and shorter pieces, because if they can make an impact on me then damn they've done a good job. I guess I prefer middling comics where they're long enough to get you really attached to the characters but not drag on forever and take 10+ years to complete. I just don't have the mental capacity to remember everything that's happened and even once it's finished, how am I going to binge all that or buy all the copies since there's no way of fitting it in one tome? Often I'll find myself losing interest too, I stopped reading Naruto around the arc where the Akatsuki were taking out all the tailed beasts. I guess I just grew out of it.

Nowadays I really like finding stories that are completable, same goes for TV series.

I'm alarmed by the definitions of long and short here! My current story is a short one, likely about 60 pages, but my epic idea I hope to eventually make will probably be around 300 pages. I always thought of that as long!

I guess it depends on how quickly you can produce pages/update. For me at my current speed 500 pages would be a decade's work. Anyone who can keep going for that long on one story certainly has my respect!

I read the shorter ones as they come out.

I tend to subscribe to the longer ones but then leave them until a substantial amount has gone up (or even that it's finished) because my memory isn't good enough to follow a long form on and off. But I do read them.

I have way too many ideas to start writing long comics. i write short ones, finish it and move on to the next project. thats how I am at least.

I look more for the story. a long epic story can have really nice world building and interesting characters. but a short story with a great plot can stick with you just as long.

if the story looks like it isnt going anywhere but its still fun to read it better be short.
if the storys got a hard set goal with 50 million different plots hell yes gimme them damn 5000 pages

I like a good mix of both. Short ones are great if they pack a good punch and have a strong intent behind them. But, I love a good long epic. I love getting into characters and watching them go along on their adventures. It's satisfying seeing how the author takes them along and helps them grow

Although, I find it interesting what people consider to be long and short!! I am writing what I consider to be a long comic, but am planning for about 500-600 pages. haha!

For me, I don't really care much about the length, I will read and subscribe to your comic if I saw something interest after scrolling through.

What's the focus for your project? 'Fame' or 'just because'?

If you want to make some fame, become famous, then do what can be sell.
Attention span is way too short nowaday (as you already saw in some replies above). If you can't make something interesting within a singe page (high enegy content and/or good artwork), and trying to do a long story with slow pacing like a traditional novel or story focus comic, then you're a goner.

For example: My comic, the first 24 pages only focus on characters and nothing really happening, if you can't stand it then you got my point. I'm currently working on the prologue to fix this problem.

But if you just want to do something for fun, because you love doing it, then just do whatever you want.
Some people will love your comic/novel no matter what you do.
