Premium Novels?

Hi there, I was wondering, how does a novel or comic get onto the Premium category?

I am aware that may seem like a stupid question, but I am genuinely curious how this happens?. Do they reach out to you? do you reach out to them? What are the criteria to even possibly be considered?

I saw on an old thread somewheres that you have to have like 2k subscribers I think. But I am curious what the confirmed requirements are. Also, is that 2K Subscribers to your comic/novel or to you?

Sorry I know this has been asked before, however all the threads are fairly old, and I am looking for some relevant new news, as things change quite fluidly many places nowadays.

So. I was a winner of one of the Writers Camp so mines a little different.

but here's the breakdown.

If you're interested in the premium you need at least 300 subs and have at least 10 episodes. You'll pitch the story to Tapas and they will determine if they will accept it. If you've completed a story you would have to change the story for Premium (since people have already read it.

I'm in the process of pitching another work right now, so I can update this as I go if you like. But I'm not starting completely from scratch here (I was able to pitch directly to my editor from a previous Premium work), so I'm not 100% how it would work if you were a cold-caller in the slushpile.

What I can tell you though is to treat it like a business venture and to prepare a full synopsis, log line etc just like a formal query. Be as robust as you can with your pitch.

You have an editor here on tapas you were able to pitch too? Also, I would love it if you could pretty please, update as you do the process, I would be very interested in how it turns out. I have a couple semi popular series. I would call it popular just because it is at a decent amount of views But maybe not super popular since it isn't at like millions or anything. And I think this new novel I have just started would be great on premium. So I am very intersted on the process because I would love to pitch mine.

I'm a Writer's Camp winner who has already got one Premium novel on Tapas, so I already have an editor who I worked with before.

I'm not sure when the next one is. There were three held before, but nothing has been announced this year except inksgiving. It could be they aren't holding another one, as there were some issues with ones previously.

You can pitch it to them if you meet the requirements as @Penni stated! They also host writing contests sometimes where Tapas gives a few authors the opportunity to go premium. Good luck with your writing journey and publishing, hope it works out!

Thanks for starting this topic! It's something I've been wondering about too. (Though it's going to be a long while before I have enough subs to pitch anything. lol)

One thing to keep in mind is the style. I considered pitching mine, but premium leans heavily toward the anime/manga aesthetic, at least for comics. Not sure what it's like for novels. But delving into what they already host is a good way to see if your stuff is a good fit. Wouldn't want to pitch a fluffy BL story to Marvel or something, right?

True, very good point. I think after checking out what they do host that my story does fit their audience. It is written in a sort of Asian culture way, which is what most featured stories on here tend to lean towards. Not a very westernized unless its Bl then as long as its popular BL the stories all seem to differentiate. But yeah, I dunno, I think it will be a long time before I get that far with the story I want to pitch them. I am only at 8 subscribers. Long way from 300. I could do my other novel which has well over that, but it's already been picked up by a publisher, so I don't have the rights to sell it under my name and profit on it by myself for another year. XD
