Yeah, I too am curious about that. I think it'd help a bit more to understand the situation.
That aside, I can say that things like this will happen. There will be those who misinterpret what you say; hell, some will try and go out of their way to misinterpret your words to fit their perspectives. Those types of people will often stick to their views and will actively try to proof everyone else to be ignorant.
At the same time, we'll also have moments where we kinda interject our experiences with others to speak for a majority, and we can't really do that, even if we are a part of said groups. We can really only speak for ourselves and that's it -- speaking for a majority can get messy
For me, it's just important to make yourself clear. Not really in the means of not trying to offend someone, cuz you can't always control how people feel and think. Rather, being clear on what you do and don't stand with, just getting your point across.
Hope the experience didn't ruin your joy for comics, and that you still keep working at it. Moments like these definitely suck, but they're always a learning moment nevertheless.
