Yea that's pretty close. I think my coworker was just weird, it's not that strange

I hold it the same way! I also grip it with my three fingers instead of using my middle finger to support the pencil.

Everyone holds their pencil differently. If it's any consolation, I hold my pencil the same way you do.

Woah I thought I was the only one :joy: I rest my pen on my ringfinger instead

I've got a former classmate who's holding her pencil/ballpen the same way as yours when you do your shading, so I don't think it's weird at all. About the way I hold mine, I do it in the same way as others would normally do (supporting the pen/pencil using my middle finger and gripping it with two fingers).

Considering I lead with my middle finger and brace on my index finger for weight / it's just in my way.... i think you're totally fine lol (I don't hold a paint brush like this but makes it oddly easy for chopsticks cause I brace the "bottom" one in the fat of my thumb/index finger area)

edit: sometimes when I draw for a long period of time, my ring finger will have a dent where the pen rests at sometimes and be sore lol

I'm... a little weird, apparently :'D just made an attempt at writing/drawing something and I found myself holding the pen in a way that was similar to yours. Then I watched one of my TikTok videos and realized that while doing the lineart I was holding my pen in a completely different way: https://www.tiktok.com/@llyrel/video/68589565171403850269

Sooo... it really depends on what I'm comfy with at the moment, I guess? :'D Either way, I don't think the way you're holding your pen is weird! And as long as it works for you, it's fine

I draw on an upright tablet so change how I hold the stylus depending on what I'm doing, but with a normal pen it's Dynamic tripod grip.

One of my college roommates held their pen so you almost couldn't see the tip of the pen at all through their finger tips. They said it gave them better control?

I don't hold it in any of the ways on the pictures shown.
My index finger is completely useless and it's just curled up next to the pen. I use my thumb and middle finger and my ring finger supports the weight of the pencil. Which is really obvious considering how my ring finger on my right hand looks vs. the one on the left.

This thread is becoming a hands model galore... I'll join in too.
