As many of you may or may not have heard by now, it was announce yesterday that Kentaro Miura, best known as the creator of berserk suddenly passed away earlier this month at the age of 54 from heart problems.

I generally don't grieve the deaths of people I don't personally know but this one got to me pretty hard as I remember feeling tears stream down my face while eating my bowl of oatmeal. Its a strange feeling but I am hurting and grieving over the loss of this person who's work helped teach me to continue to struggle on no matter what.

I cannot begin to express the impact this man, and his work had on the manga/anime, writing, gaming community and event my own artistic endeavors. Berserk is and always will be my favorite work. Period. Regardless of it having no definitive ending now.

Some of the things I remember Miura for are:

His beautifully detailed artwork:

His strong character development and story telling:

His influence in the gaming world:

Some but not all examples.

Final Fantasy-

Black Desert Online-

The Souls Series-

And his influence on my own artwork, and story telling.

Berserk Fan Art-

1 1

My own artwork and comic-

I know that his reach was large enough to a point where his work will live on. His story, his characters and his work meant so much to me and shaped me and my art, as it did with many others. My condolences to his family and anyone who knew him personally, or is also grieving his loss. While the future of Berserk may be unknown, his work is immortalized to me.

Has Miura or his work influenced you in any way? Did his passing impact you? Please share your thoughts.

Yes, he influenced my work in many ways, and also I discovered Berserk and enjoyed with with my brother, cousin, friends, my boyfriend... it was way more than that 'cool manga'.

And also opened my eyes of how miserable and exploited creators are in this industry. Yes, they signed a contract because they wanted, but it doesn't have to be like this.

These were some of his words in the end of chapters. "I couldn't see cherry blossoms with the naked eye even once in this year". Every time I read this one I feel onion ninjas around.

The world just lost one of its greatest artists and writers. Even though I haven't really read Berserk, I've always admired his gorgeous artwork and I'll always respect him. He's a great source of inspiration and I have no doubt he will also inspire many generations of writers to come.

One part is the contracts and the industry, the other part is the artist lifestyle, I don´t know many
really skilled artists who can balance it with a healthy lifestyle, 12 hours drawing every day

Yes, It was a mix of many things, and his style itself wasn't even close to be a quick, simple to do, one. Ha! 12 hours is an easy day, for them... most go 16, 18 hours, 6 days a week, for years, or more. It's a clockbomb.

It's incredibly heartbreaking news, and reading his creator comments is so sad...

I took part in the vigil in FFXIV as the only Paladin. I mean, we wouldn't have Berserk without Griff, but talk about a sore thumb amongst all the dark knights and dragoons. It was a beautiful tribute to such an impactful creator.

Berserk was the first series I ever watched and had to stop bc it broke my heart to see the rise and fall of the Band of the Hawk and what happens between Guts, Griff, and Casca. Like it's done in such an incredibly heart-rending way that it's to this day too powerful for me to sit down and watch or read without freaking myself out and stopping midway bc I know the fall is coming.

For real, it's been almost 20 years since I first watched Berserk with my then crush and now fiance and his sister and it still has a hold on my heart and that's just wild. Every other year I start to watch it or read it from the start, but every time I get to the fall I stop bc that emotional gut punch is so real. One day I would like to at least finish the anime. Gonna need my handheld through that though, I know it.
