Reviewing Comics, Genre Notwithstanding

It's 52 pages long, and it's a sci-fi story with love, action, drama, and strong women as main characters.

Anyone curious about how theirs might look, this is pretty much where I'm at with my reviewer voice. It is rusty, but it is also about four to five pages in Microsoft Word. So, take it as you will. Going to consider doing another one tonight off the list.

Anyone not wanting to read it: Zotagius is decent to good,.
Issues: The dialogue feels stilted sometimes but the art is solid enough. BUT if it goes the way I hope it goes (as in it gets worse and more Lord of the Flies for the teens) then it might be a nice, unique, not-pastiche entry into a genre that is often over-saturated with too much of the same.

Give it a read.

Got my talking points written up for a little podcasting once I get a few more of these done. Talking about beginnings, what I like seeing happen and what so often doesn't go right. But as always, much like that review, these are all just opinions.

Thanks for the review. I feel honored being the first up. The review led some insight on things in the comic I haven't tought about before, which was very interesting.
I know writing has been an issue since before I started the comic, I think I've gotten a little better. But I'm gonna focus on improving.

Short story: I don't usually get to read things I really end up thoroughly enjoying. Your work is thoroughly enjoyable and brimming with style and depth. You deserve greater accolades and success than what you have now, and should you keep up your efforts I see great success in your future.

(Although regarding your disclosure, I have been checking out The Sisters as of late - the artstyle looks very nice, just need to find the time to actually read it!)

Oh neat. I just put the full disclosure down there because I do have some friends whose stuff I've pimped before, but I just like to make people aware of any relationship I might have with individuals which might otherwise color my views. Usually the views are negatively biased because a lot needs to be fixed. I just find it to be good journalistic ethics on some level, but hey; nice to know you read my stuff.

Anyway.
You actually had a product that didn't disappoint me. I was expecting the usual flaws in cyberpunk to crop up at some point; but 50 or so pages in and you have kept it all very grounded, very stylish, and the characters very characterized. It doesn't feel like anything has bent over backwards for the plot at this point, and everyone seems organic to who they are. This can of course change, but given fifty pages, no severe changes to your creative team, and the dreamspace stuff; I've got faith that this quality will continue. Things are building, and you've increased the action of events just enough to entertain without it feeling dissonant or weak.

There's always room for things to change, for delivery to fail, et cetera. I mean, I love Evan Dahm's Vattu; but damn if I don't have my issues with the pacing. Everytime a good story looks to be cropping up we change focus elsewhere. four years in now, it is building to something great; but I doubt I'll be able to appreciate that until 2020 and as such, I have issues with it right now despite how good it is and how good it may become.

But I've got faith in your talent.

Just wanted to let folks know I am still doing these, but the day job caught up with me and I'm going to be very busy until the 9th of May. I will likely have something done and finished during that interim period (what with procrastination meaning I can put notes forward and jot down stuff); but I thought it only prudent to keep individuals in the loop.

I wouldn't want to tell you what o have a look at or control the review process in any way. I'll add a little context which could help put it in perspective though. I have no experience whatsoever drawing before I started my comic. It's my own project that I started for two reasons. To be able to my story and to learn how to draw. The art will not be good initially, but does improve. I have no problem whatsoever with someone pointing out the errors from either my early work or where I am now so go nuts! But a little context could help explain the progression of the art. Obviously I'd like to hear about the whole comic as a package not just focusing on the art, but that might go without saying.

Oh and please let me know if/when you put up the review as I wanna read it and might miss it if I'm not notified.
