Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone knows any comics that have been around for a while (specifically those that have at least 30 pages uploaded onto their series). This is NOT including gag-a-day comics. I'm looking for those that are potentially graphic novels and such.
Why?
Well, for one thing, I want to try and start writing storytelling reviews.
What do I mean by that?
Well, think of them as reviews that focus solely on storytelling techniques. I'm sure that most of us here are more artists and illustrators than writers, and so I thought I could somehow provide a small service for anyone that's interested.
I graduated with a degree in Literature, and have a few short stories published locally. That doesn't make me an expert, for sure, but I do have a good amount of expertise. I've been studying how to tell stories for most of my life. I've read so many books about storytelling techniques, plotting, outlining; and I also follow a lot of the blogs out there that talk about this. (If you want to check out how I've done reviews in the past, just visit my website. I've got a few posts about storytelling tips there, as well as some reviews).
The one thing that's lacking in the comic book industry, I believe (and especially among us independents) are reviewers. So I'm looking to try and help everyone here on Tapastic out in this small way
So! If you've got (or you know anyone that's got) a comic that has reached at least 30 pages, feel free to post them on in this thread. The reason for the required number of pages is that I can't really do a very valid review off of just five pages. The story has had to have had gone through some length for me to really go deeper.
So if you know any comics, or you're the creator of such a comic, please post them here. Paste in your...
1. Title
2. Genre
3. Cover (if you want)
4. Brief summary
5. Link (don't forget this!)
6. How best to contact you (if you own the comic), so I can leave a message if I get to writing a review.
[Edited:] P.S. Final thoughts and additions regarding WHAT TO EXPECT from my reviews:
-
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM - I have to be honest in my reviews, but at the same time I'll do my best not to put anyone down. The last thing I want is for would-be creators to give up on their dreams.
-
STORYTELLING FOCUS - I may put a couple of comments regarding art, paneling, and lettering, but don't expect a lot of these since I'm mainly a writer (it's my brother who does the art for our comic).
-
STORY STRUCTURE - This is something I've really been working hard to learn a lot about, so it's what my reviews will focus on the most. Pacing, plotting, characterization, dialogue, show don't tell, etc. I'll do my best to teach how exactly to make these aspects of your comic better within my reviews.
FREQUENCY:
At the very least, I'll try to get one review done every week. But, if I have a lot of free time, I can probably squeeze in one or two more before the week ends. Also, I think it would be best if I prioritize the creators that personally ask for their work to be reviewed. Recommended comics will come secondary (since the creators didn't really make the request themselves). But don't worry, I'll get to them soon enough!
TABLE OF CONTENTS BELOW
Just to keep things as organized as possible, all existing reviews will be listed here, along with corresponding links to the articles on my website (just so you guys don't have to crawl through this thread looking for them).
P.P.S. If you haven't started drawing your comic, but you have a written script that could amount to 30 pages, that's fine too. Just shoot me a message
Thanks guys! All the best, looking forward to helping out creators in any way I can
