I actually know of a webcomic creator/YouTuber that fits that exact description lol. She was called out for tracing and then lied about it, was called out AGAIN for lying and then made a bullshit apology video where she insisted that she was 'referencing' when she literally traced an anime screenshot lol. It wasn't a huge deal because it was just a sketch but she really blew it out of proportion by acting really rude (which she has a reputation for) but then things got worse for her because people found more traced art in prints she was selling at conventions. She deleted her channel yeah. She still has a comic tho, so here's hoping she learns from past mistakes I guess.

Now i know an artist-youtube channel that did get a lot of criticism because she traced a picture of Full metal Alchemist, not sure if it's the same person you're talking, i didn't remember that she also made webcomics.

A small thing I came across on webtoons are those comics made with the Gacha app by Lunime

I'm actually all for people making sprite comics/comics with stock art; there's always more solo writers than artists, and if your priority is the story it's a fine compromise.

It's when they don't specify where they got the images from/imply that it's their own art that I start getting annoyed.

Oh yeah I think I know this one @StellEr . I remember watching her videos when I was looking for advice on comics, and her whole 'my way or the highway' tutorial style was rude and unhelpful.

You're talking about H.C. Brown right, Holly. Just say her name, there no real point in making it anonymous since it was such a huge scandal. She has a new channel and I think she plans on redrawing her comic. I don't really like her style or her personality but I hopefully she gets better as an artist and a person.

yeah, i agree, i can see she has issues but i saw her legit try to start with a clean slate and people wouldnt give her a chance, not saying what she did wasn't wrong but- you get my point

Unfortunately she never changed. I would actually be concern and say she’s gotten worse mentally by doing some peculiar behaviors on her livestreams. She’s been super quiet the last few months to where I’m worried. She’s needs serious mental treatment.

THey've admitted vaguley about their past and apologise at the end of episodes though, so it's not like they're keeping it a secret. They don't even accept beta creator credit (and maybe ad rev idk?) for the comic even though it's very popular from what I've seen - because they say they feel guilty over their past and just want to make and enjoy doing their comic without upsetting people.

That doesn't get rid of their past obviously, but they've talked about how they tried their best to fix that situation in the past and are trying to do better. Up to people if they choose to support them knowing this though

Apparently she used to be a featured creator in the Indonesian ver of LINE Webtoon but since the scam got so bad they had to "let her go", as in not renewing her contract at all and claim that her scams have nothing to do with the company.And I guess the backlash is really big on the Indonesian side of Webtoon that she's basically not welcomed on their community anymore so I guess thats why she switched to the English side of webtoon instead.

Not only she scams people but she have attitude problems as well from what I've seen,from lying about her ethnicity,religion and being rude to her fans. It seems to me that she's just like any other weeb/koreaboo out there who claim "Im half japanese/korean" kind of thing lol

It's good that she's trying to pay back the money that she scammed people out of though,but there's also claims that said she ignored those who demand back their money. Im not Indonesian so I dont know the full scale of whats happening but yeahhhh I think this makes me think twice of wanting to support my favorite artist.

Which webcomic? The omeganim one? I dont think she ever posted that in the Indonesian ver of Webtoon since Indonesian Webtoon is homophobic. Her old webtoon on the Indonesian site is actually a straight couple story, it's called "304th Study Room".

I can tell exactly which characters are what member. It’s also the first thing I thought of when I saw her work. I think it’s silly she denied that but after reading about the scams, it makes sense.

I noticed these kind of behavior were often ignored or disregarded in the Webcomic community. Where in the Art community, if you were caught doing something shady/rude, people will quickly call you out on it. What do you guys think about this?

People will call out both and be equally ignored by fans and the creators in both, unfortunately. I started out in the art community long before webcomics and there was a rather prolific Deviantart artist who was caught directly tracing photos of people like Kim Kardashian and turning it into a photo realistic painting of Sasuke from Naruto. The rest of their works are pumped out at ridiculous quantity because they took photobashing to a whole other level - just outright splotching enough paint on top of it to convince the untrained eye they painted the whole thing. If you look closely though you see many spots where it's completely untouched and unedited, but people still eat this stuff up despite the large amount of evidence collected and posted against them.

Audiences just get split into those who know, and those who want to pretend they don't because they idolize that person too much. The problem is really the psychological effect where it becomes an ingrained belief that artist X could never do no wrong, so evidence doesn't do much to sway opinion.
