I'm looking for stories (original/fanfiction novels, serials, comics, etc.) that feature an independent, proactive female protagonist in which romance does not play a dominant role; it should focus on the SFF/action/mystery/etc. elements instead (though I'm more lenient with non-F/M romantic elements such as sapphic and/or poly).

So far, I've mostly found serials through Royal Road and Scribble Hub, along with published novels on Amazon but finding things I'm interested in on Tapas (and other sites like Webnovel, Wattpad, or fanfic sites like Ao3, etc.) is harder.

I prefer lighthearted over grimdark, and currently, I'm most interested in these specific genres/niches:

  • Cyberpunk (especially more like Stray Cat Strut or its fanfics, like Teddy Bears on Brigade; or things like Ghost in the City, Neon Dragons, Cyber Dreams).
  • Urban Fantasy (ranging from something like The Dresden Files to things like Changeling by Mecanimus, MAZE - The endless quest, and The Protagonist's Sister Is Actually The Strongest).
  • Superhero (Fluff).
  • Fantasy sci-fi/high fantasy in space (like Eve of Destruction or A Guide to Becoming a Pirate Queen).
  • Cozy fantasy/sci-fi. (Or things more slice of life/episodic like To Fly the Soaring Tides).

Thanks in advance.

My webtoon meets some of the requirements not all. Has a female lead where romance isn't the focus... But it's a dark storyline with pockets of humor

Not sharing my story bc it's technically horror and has a male lead buuuuut I do have some recommendations

Webcomics:
Spaceships and Vodka (fantasy, Sci-fi, 5 person cast, no F/M romance)
Stone Sparse-wood (high fantasy, humorous, no romance, 2 leads)
The Hidden Folk (fantasy, folk, no romance)
Ride Scare (horror comedy, no romance)
The Princess Plot (fantasy, sapphic)
The Witch (fantasy, feel good, no romance)
Bird Girl (Urban, super hero, no romance)
Dandelion Atelier (urban, fantasy, no romance)

If you want physical comics then i recommend
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (sapphic, fantasy, humorous)
Other Ever Afters (anthology, fantasy, sapphic)
The Lumberjanes (urban, campy, cozy, sapphic)

Literly anything by Reina Telgemeier (Smile, Sisters, Drama, Ghosts) (Most of these are urban/slice of life)

I have an urban fantasy, with a female lead with no romance subplots. Some of the other characters will get a bit of romance though.

My comic is cyberpunk/western/apocalyptic elements with a female protagonist. I try to put her in ridiculous situations and have fun with the violence and action.

AY YO THATS ME! My story is centralized on family and self love. No jump scare romance here.

If ya wanna read it, it’s about a group of magical characters who are forced to save the world while tackling how mental health and minority history play into immortality.
(Think the rules of Twilight meets the chaos of Parks and Rec)

Would love to hear your thoughts on the first 3 chapters!

How about Terra Prima? It's a very interesting science-fiction comic with a female lead:

And in my webcomic there's also a female lead and romance is almost non-existent, though it doesn't fall into your mentioned specific genres, it's 'just' fantasy : )

That's fine. The five subgenres/niches are just my current mood, but any SFF fiction that fits the requirements is welcome! Thanks for the recs!
