âDamn it all to Hell,â Valon cursed, clenching a spoon in his mouth. His right arm trembled at his side.
âValon âŚâ Patience breathed.
The man shot his head up, his brow furrowing.
âLooks like I caught you by surprise for once,â she said. Valon remained silent, picking up the dish. Patience cautiously approached him as one would a cornered animal. The hunter ripped the spoon from his mouth and gripped it so tight it appeared he wished to strangle it.
âWhat are you doing here?â grumbled Valon.
âI wanted to talk,â Patience said. When she realized she was on the other side of the conversation, she could not help but laugh to herself. Valon stood for a moment as the shaking in his arm slowly subsided.
âWell, the cold is no place to do it. Youâre barely covered,â he said with a nod at Patienceâs simple smock. âCome in.â He waved a hand his way and lurched inside. Patience followed.
