Hi! Michael FIG here! :sunglasses: With another Topic!
Here's my PREVIOUS Topic. Here :point_right: Share Your Comic! With A Twist?!1

What's your biggest Inspiration?! What Inspired you to create your Comic or Novel?! What did you have to go through with the series? Whether It's a person a character, show, video game or book series! Which had the biggest effect that helped you gain the passion for your series?!

BUT HERE'S THE TWIST!!!! :astonished:

It must be actually 7 sentences long! :scream: NO shorter! NO Longer!

Can you handle it?

You need THREE things! #1 7 sentences explaining what struggles and what inspired your series, #2 A drawing from your series, #3 Links to your series!

Let's have fun! And remember It's fine to ask others to SUBSCRIBE But not directly! I suggest to put that
at the end of your episodes or pages! :innocent: Letting the reader decide!

Also "This is only a suggestion" Subs for Subs don't really count as most people think! :astonished:
The point of building a series is having a organic following! You'd rather have more engaging readers and fans then ghost followers right? :relaxed: But do as you wish! I want stop you!

Lastly whether your series is here on Tapas, Webtoon Canvas, or other Comic hosting sites! All are welcomed! :+1:

Let's have some fun now! I'll start!

Inspiration?
1. Growing up I struggled to draw characters such as Spider Man, Batman & Super Man, so I decided to create my own characters. 2. I really enjoyed superheroes, cartoons, graphic novels, comics & some animes, that's what started the ball rolling! 3. After some months, they were just characters, then it became a short comic series I'd draw with paper and pencil! 4. What truly inspired me to create the series was wacky looking characters like Sponge Bob, along with full on action like Dragon Ball Z! 5. I stopped drawing these characters for 4 years as I was drawing a new series with real people instead of objects. 6. But just last year 2019 is when I decided to bring the series and characters back to life. 7. It's been a struggle over the years, but I'm happy that the series is finally out this year!

This looks like a cool way to share comics. I'm in!

Inspiration
1. I took a creative writing class in high school and I loved it to pieces! 2. I made a short story with characters I very quickly grew attached to. 3. I've always been a huuuuuge fan of graphic novels like BONE and Amelia Rules, so trying to do one myself seemed kind of natural? 4. The actual way to go about doing this story didn't really click until the likes of Over the Garden Wall and Gravity Falls gave some ideas of how to do comedy and drama in a balance. 5. Finally, my art style is based on western cartoons across the board, making my comic a combination of several cartoons and my favorite comics. 6. I did a practice comic first, called Calamity Jane, to get into the habit of a schedule and queue. 7. And now that I am, I'm ready to keep it going until it stops; it's a passion project I'm so excited to finally be doing!

  1. I saw some LARPers larping as they do and thought 'what if that's actually a guise for fighting supernatural forces only they can see?'
  2. I started fleshing out a lighthearted fantasy about people running around fighting supernatural forces.
  3. The story took a turn down a dark alley and kept running.:grimacing:
  4. It got darker than I intended and a lot weirder :fearful:(see below image of eldritch abomination dog and monster)
  5. Kerry Muzzey's music inspired a shift and LEGIO ARCANA was born.
  6. The big obstacle of not knowing how to draw was faced....and is still being struggled with.
  7. While not conquered, the drawing difficulty has lessened and the 6th chapter will start coming out this year. :grinning:

@MichaelFig Spongebob inspiration is solid inspiration! You also do a great job with the introductory panels to set the scenes!

@PaulDevers Your art style is so fun, expressive, as is the premise of your story!

Lol interesting requirement! I'll have a go.

Inspiration
1. I had written a lot of short science fiction and action stories, and I wanted to share it with the Tapas community.
2. So I collated all the stories into a collection with the common themes of science fiction, thriller, and dystopic societies!
3. The most difficult aspect of the collation was that some of the stories were written pretty long ago, so I needed to do quite a bit of revamping and editing.
4. But it was a great experience since I could expand on concepts (like bioengineering, virtual reality, A.I.) and give it the treatment that it deserved.
5. Another interesting aspect was figuring out the order in which to post the stories since some of them were much shorter than others, so I figured alternating it would be good.
6. I've gotten some feedback about connecting all the stories together (perhaps in different timelines), which is an interesting idea!
7. I might try to do that at a later time but that would be exceedingly cool.

Inspiration
1. I was inspired by the conflict between love and duty in the live action Hua Mulan (2007) movie and really loved the last scene of the movie.
2. I didn't want to rip off the original plot and conflicts, so it took me a while to brainstorm.
3. Eventually, I figured out a way and reversed the power dynamics of the characters, introduced a fantasy soulmate system, and added more power struggles.
4. The hardest part was detailing the soulmate system as not only a plot device, but imagining how it would integrate in ancient China's culture and laws.
5. A lot of research also had to be done to include historically accurate events, clothing, etc into the story but that was fun!
6. I re-edited the novel and added more action scenes and power struggles before posting it to Tapas.
7. So I'm happy with how it is now!

  1. I have a fascination with the nature vs. nurture question in psychology
  2. This question is linked a lot to a personal struggle of my own
  3. I wanted to explore the question through a story format because that's how I like to express myself
  4. Aside from the nature vs. nurture question, some of my biggest inspirations are The Iliad, Evangelion, and a lot of videogames like EarthBound and stuff
  5. Some of my biggest struggles with the story have to do with willpower; I knew it would be a long story when I started writing, and keeping up the momentum can be hard on many days
  6. The story is getting really complex, and it can sometimes be difficult to balance all the characters and develop their relationships while keeping the continuity in tact
  7. I just wanted to make a high fantasy story that stood apart from Lord of the Rings and was focused on exploring the inner turmoil of the characters.

This looks like fun  I don't have a drawing from my story since it's a novel, but here's the cover I created with a photo (I hope that counts).

Inspiration
1. I started this story in high school because I (like lots of other people) wondered what it would be like if I could use magic.
2. I had some idea this would be a high fantasy series because that's what was cool then.
3. So I had all these characters doing things, and several people told me I couldn't write...and I stopped writing.
4. I picked up this story again years later just to see how much I had changed and grown.
5. I decided much of the plot sucked but I still liked most of the characters, so I started re-imagining it.
6. After applying a heavy coating of cynicism and more mature (not in the NSFW sense) themes to the world, I reshaped the plot into something I actually really enjoy thinking about.
7. Then I read a bunch of comics and some novels on Tapas and thought "Why not see if other people like this world as much as I do?"

Inspiration
My series is about a vampire and my inspiration was Twilight, believe it or not. I wanted to do everything modern vampire stories, including the good ones, don't do that I wish they did. Most vampire stories have the same plot of being cursed, loosing family members and going on murder sprees before becoming good again. The vamps don't get a lot of human backstory either aside from blissfully perfect families. And rarely since Dracula has a vampire been an honest to god bad person (in universe). My protagonist isn't as evil as Dracula, but especially in his youth, he could be a pretty scummy person. He's also a chicken loving, jobless, lazy, alcoholic <3

concept art, yet to be used ^^

  • I am a 100% SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST.
  • I started Nachos Con Carne back in 2011 and based off characters I created as far back as the sixth grade.
  • It was created as a twisted take on coming-of-age stories, with wildly exaggerated cliches and social Darwinism to the extreme.
  • The title is an homage to two of its biggest inspirations: Charles Schulz's Peanuts and Kiyohiko Azuma's Azumanga Daioh, two comics about idiosyncratic children with titles that have nothing to do with anything in it.
  • The anime, comics, cartoons, and odd British TV show or two that influenced it would require more than seven sentences to list.
  • If you like it, you can read ahead--albeit with crappy old comics--at nachosconcarne.com.
  • I joined Tapas and Webtoon to get it out to wider audiences, taking an opportunity to remaster old pages with new art and dialogue and also hopefully break up the longer chapters.
