There's a good post Ratique made where it goes into the criteria of what they're looking for in a front page pick.
For me, I got on the front page under the category "New and Noteworthy"--and I'm not sure what...that means? (because it was put on the Front Page over a month after I posted that comic) but, I was there for about a week or two and got a bunch of new followers every day, and lots of views. But, it wasn't for my main comic which is a long fantasy, it was for a short story I did called Bardsong.
And it makes sense, because Bardsong was more of what they're looking for in regards to front page works compared to what else I make. It was a project that was visually quite pretty and colorful, it had a good art direction, it was easy to read on the phone, it had a developed storyline--just a fully completed package (and finished comic--this one is done), so although it only has 7 updates, it got in a front page list. I don't know how they would have found it if I hadn't been posting on this forum, so...keep posting because you don't know who might be glancing through these, because again, it had 7 updates, and only had like 10 followers for about a month. There is no other way they found me than here (unless it was a big coincidence).
It was nice though because people who read Bardsong also tended to look at other things I had made, and a few subbed to Alchemist Burn Outs, and that's what helped me get over that elusive 100 followers to unlock that ad revenue (I have been making ABO for over 2 years so...about time...) My short comic that was on the front page has 165 followers--which is wild because it's less than 10 updates and is finished so it'll never update again...but hey I gained like 10-20 follows on ABO, so I'm happy. (plus it's a huge boost to your confidence because I went like 2 years just assuming I'd never be on that front page, so that was very nice to see proof that nah, I just have to keep making stories. Some fit the front page, some don't. Not better or worse, just different stories.)
