Heya! I'm Derek and I'm the author of the ongoing series "A God in the Shadows." I'm 24 years old and mostly write as a hobby in my free time, along with full-time work, online college, and spending time with my family. I'm an introvert in the real world, but a people-person online, so if you ever want to talk, just hit me up

Hope you've been well!
I can't remember if I've asked this before, but does anyone know a good place to find Eastern style typograph/logo artists? I tried Fiverr, but almost everyone I've seen that does this kind of work there makes it look extremely Western-oriented. I also checked Pixiv, but no one really showcases t…
Haven't been on the forums in months. Thanks so much for the shout out!
Haven't been on the forums in a while, so I just saw this, but thank you! I appreciate it!
I just finished my math class, but I was working full time, taking a math class, and writing my story at the same time. I would literally have to schedule out everything I did. I went to bed at the same time every day, wrote for a certain amount of time, and dedicated a specific time to math. After …
Weird hillbilly guy likes a furry and ends up in a group of even stranger people trying to dismantle the social structure of the world and give equal rights to everyone.
Insert "Road to El Dorado" meme Both? Both. Both is good.
Yeah it always hurts when you hear someone talk bad about something you've put your heart and soul into creating. I think the most hurtful thing to me was hearing my story be called "bland" and "cliche." I tried very hard to make it neither of these things, and hearing it be called both in the sam…
Ah, yeah. That would make sense.
I just recently got my story posted in the staff picks for Novels. Not sure on the engagement thing, because honestly, I feel like my ratio of subs:likes is very weird compared to most people's haha. I have just over 400 subscribers, and even though I have about 18 episodes of my novel out, I only h…
I had the idea for the plot first. Then I started writing and began to insert characters, eventually I began to develop the characters unique personalities and then when I started to write their scenes and dialogue, I would have to switch my brain into [enter character name here]-mode. Now that my…
I just fixed it last night, cause it was a very weird schedule, but I typically find myself going to bed at 4-6pm and waking up between midnight and 2am to write all throughout the dark of the night and into the morning. I was very productive, but when I had to go to work, I was mentally dead.
Hey! Was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue as me. I woke up 12 hours ago (8am), but haven't been able to produce a single word for my novel. Now that it's 8pm and the sun is set, I feel like I can write forever. Do any of you have a sort of Creative Clock? Maybe it's because I'm w…
Gonna join this thread for updates. Just searched around after you brought it up -- sparked my interest too
I approached them. Saw them on twitter and began conversing with them over email.
I always try to make dialogue a paragraph of its own. If I'm going to describe the dialogue in detail, however, I try to make the piece of dialogue go either at the very beginning or very end of its respective chapter. Kinda just easier to read imo
Thanks! Saw you on one of the databases as well!
Seems pretty real to me
So, I got signed on for a publishing deal with Novel Horizons, a fairly new company that focuses on Original English Light Novels (OELN). My manuscript will be going through quite a bit of changes as I revise, edit, and refine the story. The same can be said for the artwork. My illustrator and I …
Hey, everyone. I'm really happy with the artwork for my story, but I am curious. How do some of these other stories make the actual lettering/fonts for cover art? Is it all handmade? I just used a typical font for mine, but it could be so much better. Thanks!
Can't speak for everyone, but I'm 24 -- 25 in a few months
I mean, I interact with girls everyday lol. Just none of them really like Shoujo stuff, guess it's just that I don't really know any girls who have an interest in things like that -- probably cause they're all 20+ and work
I guess it depends. I would like to try my hand at it honestly, but I don't know where to start. I.e. should it be a teen love story? Workplace love story? Yuri? Yaoi? Straight? Love triangle? Slice of Life? Psychological? Etc. I want to start one, but I don't really know the demographics all that…
Oh jeez. That's awful. Sounds like you give up all your freedoms as an author just to become a cog in their machine. I'll be avoiding them then.
Oof. It's really that bad, huh?
Hey, everyone. I was curious on what you think about webnovel.com. Do you think it's a good site for publishing? How would it work to publish on both there and tapas, etc? Looking for how trustworthy, how user-friendly, and how good the community is over there? Just looking at other possibilities …
It's a highly trending tag on Twitter and Instagram. I'm just trying to be hip haha
ohhh thank you. That's really good advice and I will remember that as I go back through my manuscript to revise
It's specifically on my latest Instagram post, so no need to dig haha
Heya! On my Instagram, I'm starting a "Draw This in your Style" Challenge for my novel's characters. If anyone is interested in checking it out, you can find it on IG @agodintheshadows
I hope to see a decent turnout of fan art
