I'm currently have 2 more pages left to work for my first 'MAOR chapter1 (partial) upload.

Unfortunately I don't have a buffer yet, there's more things to plan and design outside of the comicpages.

Here's some WIP pages:

Also, my logline has changed to be more close to the premise and less vague.

Comic begins 3 more days !

My dude, this is excellent and beautiful stuff.

MAOR chapter 1 has now started!
What an increadible feeling!

Any subscribers will be given this: :kissing_cat:

Ciao~

Wow I have a new level of respect for the insane level of detail you put into these pages. How long was the time lapse over?

4~5 days with plenty of rests, penciling & inking takes less time than digital.

AN INSPECTION OF MY MERCH ITEMS

*this is more of a blog post. mirrored from my ComicFury site's blog.

Like many other creators, i create my merchs on a print-on-demand marketplace.
I've bought myself my own merch a while ago, and now I have time to write this, so you may know what to expect when if you get your hands on the items.

Pictures below are comparisons between digital orignals & the merch physical prints from Zazzle.

PIN (BUTTON) - 3" Version

The design you see here is an earlier version, newer one has color shades on the character.

I'm slightly disappointed on this, but overall is a typical print quality i can still accept. When looking at a distance it's okay, but when zoom in just a bit I can see the print quality: that slight grainy 'noise' effect on flat color base, plus subpar print resolution (even smudges a bit). It looks good at glances, but not in the details.

On the material, It's okay. The front is fine, no scratch no dents. I'm do like the light weight aluminum pinback despite it's such a fingerprint magnet. On a bad note I saw few fingerprints which aren't mine when i first received it. (not thoughtful enough Zazzle staff)

This version is a 3", a bit too large for my taste. The back protrude a bit because of the slightly taller "neddle holder" . I hope that my recommended 2.25" ones will stay flush.

POSTCARD - 5" x 7"

The slight redness is expected from printing, so not problem with that. I was surprised that it has very good print quality. Retail book cover quality!

Zazzle has fairly nice range of options for you to choose (paper size, paper type, enhanced print or not etc). My example here is I used a slightly thicker 120lb matt paper: velvet-ly smooth to the touch and feels really premium, but it's not what i wanted. The matt paper has lower color gamut capacity so it may look a bit dull. (My postcard arts are intended not to be too saturated in color, so that's okay)

Now then I changed the paper type to typical 110 lb semi-gloss to gave it the original postcard touch & feel, and better color reproduction compared to this print i have.

Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of the postcard, I hope people find this a worthwhile buy. (it's also the cheapest) By the way all my postcards has general template on the flipside and is functional as real usable postcards. (though I see them as good collectables) For the pins, it's alright with a slightly darker duller color. It's not so bad, just standard quality.

I haven't bought my sticker yet but i'll wait till my 2nd batch of merchs coming up, then i may give my 2nd inspection.

Interested? You can visit my store HERE.2 :kissing_cat:

(To shown the Maor Merchs, be sure to change Content Filter to 'Moderate' at the bottom right option down the bottom right of the webpage.)

I say make merchs if you feel like making them or not, despite numbers of subs!
For me sales don't matter much, I just want to entice my readers and also it's my personal wish of having my own merchs.

I would but I've been finding it hard enough to get through drawing pages haha, writer's block has been hitting me pretty hard

I come back to this thread of mine from time to time, for i like to use it like a personal art-blog to post and my WIPs, thoughts, journals of my comic series. Hope this is still okay within rules.

*Now the following is more of a blog post, mirrored mostly from my Patreon's blog post:

'Designing of Maor's Room'

Today i'm writing in an article-like format. I don't usually do this cos' it takes me more time than others to correct/check my spellings/grammars, still, because i want to add in my thoughts & process about the designs.

Okay, before i even started posing my series, i did a quick sketch Maor's would-be room because i was curious about it.

Just a mindless sketch, it has nothing to write home about. This was when i didn't design the house at first-- which is not a good idea. Some elements are kept, like:

  • Round carpet as bed
  • Not much personal items

Maor, like most of my village folks, don't have a materialistic mind or like to decorate his room with stuffs. Still, there's some things that are given by his papa. (which will shown in later drafts)

Here's one of a drafts after Maor's house are designed. (let's call this version B, the village does have several versions of residential structures). You see the inside doesn't have room partitions, everything is just 1 big space. The house is supported by 4 arc "pillars" foundations + 1 long roof support. (crazy, right?) (excuse me for this ugly, not-using-ruler sketch)

So here's a small backstory:

When Maor's around 9 years old, Maor's papa figured that Maor may want his own corner, as Maor likes to be on higher ground to chill. The village authority do permit house modifications/extentions for villagers in a reasonable way. So he grouped with few local people to custom build the platform, using the house's foundation arcs as support.

Draft 1 looks like this: the 'Attic' Room, very early design.

Draft 2: Adding things inside.

The build is solid enough for a kid to move around, but It can't hold too heavy objects, so the things inside Maor's room are all lightweight. (Papa certainly can't step foot in there cos' he's heavy) Some of the things Papa built for him, like the flimsy small table and kids cabinet.

Onward to Draft 3. This is when i started drawing Chapter 2, also when Maor's house interior design was finalized.

After i drew this, i notice I got the scale wrong-- the "floor" piece should be shallower. As for width it's a bit wide. In fact the house should be just below 5.5 meters (18 foot) in width. The Draft 3's flooring should be at most 3.4 meter (11.2 foot).

The arc foundations-- are inspired by cat-scratching post. Maor gets up to the attic room by climbing the arc, that heavy-duty thick rope coiling around the arcs is good material for climbing or scratching. The design of metal bearing on tightly hanging on the 2 arcs makes it more believable. It starts to feel like a possible structure.

DRAFT 4 (probably final)

A room often can tell things about the character.

What's with the plushies? Certainly they're bought by papa when Maor was little.
He keeps it on the side now and didn't threw away. Why would he? Maor may be keeping them as a nostalgia. Same thing with the drawing pieces sticked on the wall.

This one is the last piece. The space starts to feel a bit small for Maor, but he can still get by. With some quick shading, I'm finally satisfied with this design. The "floor" looks like it really hang onto wall & together securely but also was not totally solid. (if he jumps around at his age it's going to wobble)

ENDING NOTE:
For real, i don't have to get into this much detail for Maor's room which is only shown very few times in the entire story... but i so curious about his 'bedroom'. XP

Anyway, thanks for taking time reading this!

Now that's worldbuidling, from the floor up.

(Btw, have you considered entering Kyoto International Manga contest this year, with the first chapter maybe ?)

:smile:Thanks. Though i'm not interested on joining contests, however if there's something like a comic anthology (better if it's same genre, same niche) I do like to try that out.

WIP of MAOR chapter 4's cover

From above pic: Upper left is pencil ref., bottom is value ref. I used yellow color pencil for basic perspective lines.

Not easy to draw the structures in fisheye perspective as no ruler is used. The effect is not strong, more like an ultra-wide 20mm lens. I hope it looks natural enough.

Not totally please with the inking because i may've inked too much outlines & details (I want to leave the white-out highlight areas as sunshine, for a Hi-key watercoloring.) It's a daunting task as I rarely use the medium over 7 years. Best way to do it is to make watercolor color references first.

But that has to wait for a while-- after i finish the comicpages for next comic update.

Want to ink-sketch some of my story items.

For worldbuilding: Because there's not much leisure going on in my village, so I design a card game for them to play.

A card game for group leisure or for betting items. In Maor's village it's prohibited to play in daytime. A rare premium item to get a hold of. (the 2 coins are not part of the set, just size comparison)
30 cards full deck .

Unfortunately my MC will never play the cards, however it will be debut and played by side characters somewhere in Act 2.

Here's real life mockup. (actual size, 1.32x larger than poker card).

Today I don't know why but I digged the forum to search all my old replies since late 2019. It's nice to reminisce what I've wrote on the forum topics all these years. :relieved::sob::smile:

I hand-pick 15 of them: From my very first introduction to my webcomic MAOR (keep in topic about my projects and goals). Hehe, most of the best topics are from 2020.

While working on upcoming pages. I also do some research:
I want to to enrich my worldbuilding by adding something I overlooked...

Critter Environmental Sound!:bird:

I just cannot let my village be such a quiet place without some BG sounds in certain time period.

Cicadas, Crickets are the inspiration, but I' gotta be creative not to copy entirely.

I may add 2 additional insects into my Bestiary (Maor Extra) in August. Very looking forward to it!
