Someone suggested that learning to write better would help me make a comic faster. How does this work?

Okay let’s say I write the worst story ever.

And a clone of me writes the best story ever.

They’re the same length, and are written equally quickly.

What would happen differently between the two of us when we draw them?

Why is me writing poorly worse for my comic pacing than me writing well?

Does “writing better” mean writing faster? Or just writing better story stuff? Would a better story have more story in 40 pages?

I don’t think you understand what better writing is. It isn’t anything specifically, it’s just being better than you were. I think you should stop asking questions about making comics and just make one.

I tried that and I drew it for a full year without getting to the actual plot.

And apparently learning to write will stop that from happening again. But how?

Uhh… what you said better writing is, that’s exactly what I thought it meant and it’s why i’m confused. Why is being better at writing going to make me draw faster?

I don’t even have a story to adapt right now. The one i’m writing it’s too long for that right now.

Writing could be better or worse, it really doesn't affect the speed of drawing. That is a completely separate skill. The only way to draw a comic faster is to just draw a comic and gradually learn techniques that work best for you as you draw.

Hire someone to teach you how to write. Second option, get a ghostwriter to first outline the rough story, then get a ghostwriter and let them finish the first chapter. Check if you are satisfied with the result and take it from there Both will cost you money, you just have to decide what step to take

Hi there, I'm not totally sure how to say this but I'll just go ahead so I might be of help in some way.

Writing is an integral part of storytelling. You have to know when to add action, drama and suspense in the right amount and at the right places so as to keep the reader hooked.

Good artwork won't get you far unless your reader is hoked from the start. I can say this with confidence as I have picked up stories with the most beautiful art I've ever seen but the plot lacked substance or the characters were just down right irritating.

If you've got your art down that's nice but you need to know how to write so you can figure out which moments to panel for maximum impact.

Stories don't have to be overly ground breaking or explosive, they just have to be readable, and enjoyable to the targeted audience.

Extra advice on characterisation because characters are very important to stories. You don't have to have relatable characters in regards to their attitude. You just out them in relatable situations.

Homeslice everyone's first comic is sucky. Just put your pen to paper and motherloving draw and quit wasting your time asking pointless nonsensical questions when you can be improving your craft right now buddy boy. No one starts from here to Eisner Awards (or whatever the crap you decide to do creatively) just instantly. It takes time and practice and that's okay.

I intend to draw a comic anyway. I intend to take neil gaiman’s masterclass. I don’t actually need to ask this question.

I just want to understand why writing class is a solution to my drawing speed problems. Everyone swears I should already know.

This is a dumb novelty question, for lack of a better word. I gain nothing from it, I just don’t know a thing and want to know it.

This conversation happened because I explained that chapter one of a comic I was writing took a year to draw, and I was told writing classes would fix this somehow, and I was super confused about this. Then the person who said this refused to elaborate because they were sick of answering my questions.

Also this question isn’t going to stop me. This isn’t stopping me from writing or drawing because I do those later in the day than this. I have more than enough time to ask this question, write, and draw today.

No one would be calling this a distraction from my comic if it had nothing to do with the comic.

Why is this suddenly a distraction because I used the word “comic”?

I did draw a comic for an entire year. I’d be asking this even if I was drawing that comic right now, and had a panel to make today.
