Why does Tapas default to Romantic Fantasy when searching for stories? Wouldn't it make more sense to have All Genres as the default option?

Well, it's their most popular genre. And it's really not that big of a hassle to click the all genres button if romantic fantasy isn't your thing.

Was the search always like this? I can't help but feel its self-enforcing.

Not the search, but the comics tab on the website. I assume the search will direct you to the most popular comic or creator that fits the keyword. Before the comics tab was in alphabetical order so action was first. But this change makes sense for them since most readers are looking for romantic fantasy stories.

If I remember correctly... it used to default to all comics but then they changed it to Romance being the default and when people on forum complained we were promised that the default genre would be on a rotation but... it never changed from Romance...

It’s possible it could be a programming issue.

They put all the genres into a list but couldn’t find a way to randomize or something.

Similar to how Binge was supposed to have Completed works but they ended up adding them manually. Then they just added a bunch from Popular, thus making the tab a bit redundant.

oh, wait, I didn't even notice that they changed it at some point from romance to romance fantasy
this and action fantasy look so clunky as genre names...
