I do the same, as you can see, in my WIP I detail "hard drawings" because if I don't I'll prolly die lol

My line art is not great right now, because I'm recovering from a very bad arthritis flare up. I should probably not be drawing yet as I can still barely move my thumb or flip to the eraser without hurting my hand but I'm bored and behind on work x.x

Sometimes I just work off the stick figures. Sometimes I get myself a little more sketch to work with. Depends on the panel I guess. I pick and choose my drawing battles due to my physical limits.

Planification:

after that I do a rough sketch to determine shot calls and stuff, and then do my pencils over that -- here's the pencils!

I've been told there's actually an extra reason for this -- sketches trick your brain! When something is sketchy, that usually means there's a lot of rough lines implying where contours are gonna go, so your brain interprets it for you, kind of automatically "seeing" the best version or interpreting the sketch using the best lines.
When you ink, you have to actually pick where the contours are -- you can't just imply them and let your brain figure out where it should be like you do with sketches. So when you don't quite pick the perfect line, your inks look "worse" because your brain was imagining this hypothetical perfect line that the sketch implied.

So a lot of times when sketches look better than inks, it's not because the artist is drawing the inks worse -- inks just don't give your brain as much room to fudge what it's seeing!

I don't have the thumbnail/storyboard for this page scanned - but it's literally two inches tall and covered in barely legible stick-figures. Here's the full-sized digital rough, clean sketch and finished page of page 22 from chapter 3 of Grassblades:

As you can see, even my clean sketches are full of scribbly bits.

I go even looser when I turn my party's weekly Dungeon World-adventures into sketch-comics summarizing the play sessions. There, I go straight from blobby rough sketch to "finished" lines (which themselves are looser and more sketchy than my Grassblades-lines):

There's no step in between there - I just go from stick-figure-like blobs straight to detailed lines. It sometimes comes out wonky, but overall it's faster, and it's the speed I'm after with these since I do them in my spare time.

Well here's mine, I've been dealing with depression and cabin fever which makes me lose motovation to work. Ive been working on this page for 2 weeks now when normally it only takes me 15-18 hours per page...but I'm starting to get my motovation back so thats good at least.

My pages tend to transform a lot between the thumbnail and the final version, although this is probably the most radical one in a while. xD

I usually do the thumbnailing on A4 paper because I also write the dialogue at the same time and I like being able to at least vaguely place it on the panels right from the start. I do make a lot smaller thumbnails too tho. Those are lil' boxes that are barely two inches and can get really hard to decipher. :'D

Not looking too bad anymore since I've scanned it and can see it a lot bigger than irl. But I still had to think for a while what those two panels were showing and then I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget it again.

I'm a very messy worker and my initial sketch is always very loose. IAnd I...ugh...usually don't use a detailed second draft (which I probably should) and I start inking and colour testing right after. This is why most of my comic looks sketchy, but I find it much more difficult to sit down and focus on continuous lines and details.
I am much better than before when I thought I can jump straight into lineart

EDIT: I also draw most of my thumbnails REALLY small, just to get an idea of panel flow, you usually you can't tell what I've drawn. This is the thumbnail of page 4 alongside the actual page

hehhee, as you can see, there's a huuuuuge difference between the sketches and the final outcome xD
I... like to do paper craft with my thumbnails, hence the tape everywhere and cut out stuff xD

@miseryhunting I'm pretty sure quick art defines your style~. I personally get way too exctied with some planifications so most of the time I know what's going on.

Traditonal is the only way for me
But no, it's a font and I usually change the dialogue between 2-3 times before officially posting it online!
(I've been told that I can't write readable, so I have to letter it digitally xD)

Ooh how fun. Here's page ten of chapter four of my comic Life of an Aspie from start to finish.

First is the rough draft. Nothing fancy. This is where I sketch out a rough idea of what I want the page to look like.

Next is of course the inks. If you look closely, you will notice some slight changes between the rough draft and this. Mostly though, its just the tightening of lines. Plus I had forgotten to sketch a smart phone in the rough draft. Occasionally that happens, but not very often.

Mmm...this page is looking good now huh? I find toning to be a very relaxing process now that I've gotten used to doing it. All I need to do now is add the dialogue and that will be it.

So there you have it folks. That's how I personally do my comic Life of an Aspie.

I start out with raw roughs so that i can get a general gist of how i want the panels/page to play out...

Sometimes I'll go an extra step to tighten up the pencils in another color that will make it easier for me to ink. Other times I'll tighten up the roughs a little more then str8 go to inks- it depends on how I feel and how much I have to do...

Lastly, I'll ink. Most special FX & other stuff I'll add during the coloring phase.

I tend to just use my storyboards as the initial sketch I start working off of, for some pages my storyboards can be rather detailed (the example page is one of those) and sometimes there is just a bunch of circles with letters on them indicating which character is which.

i use my storyboards or thumbnails to get the general idea, of what i want to happen on the page, down. which becomes a problem if I take a break and thus don't remember what I was aiming for on a page >>;

and my personal favorite just because of how vastly different it is from the thumbs..
