I appreciate both gunfights and swordfights, especially in cinema, but in books I think swordfights will reign supreme. That being said, I think it's way, way easier to fuck up a swordfight than a gunfight in a book since gunfights tend to be a lot simpler (it's pretty much point, shoot, and sometimes duck into cover) and good research for swordfights is hard to do if you don't know where to look.
I also generally find swordfights easier to write than gunfights since I'm a natural sword nerd(though don't get me wrong, I'm also a gun nerd) and doing a gunfight well requires a lot more attention to environmental detail, which is always a weak point of the novel medium. I actually tried a gamelit side project and basically quit it because the gunfights were too hard to write well and the book was, like, 60% gunfights since it's a goddamned gamelit.
Speaking of absolutely amazing swordfights, there's plenty of that in my main work, Urban Wolf(where my main character is an actual swordmaster).
if you're more into modern day thriller-style 'normal person fights for their life' scenarios there's a couple of those in Monsters In Plain Sight, which is a short story.
