I'm a decently competent artist with a small following on social media. I even had a Patreon that had 1 (ONE!) subscriber at the £1 tier. I've been inactive on social media for a while though, partly because I don't have a clearly defined art goal.

I have always wanted to take my art more seriously and make a little money on the side with it. It would be so awesome to have a Patreon, sell keychains and stickers, books, sell my art at conventions... etc. I shyed away from that goal for many reasons. I already have a fulltime job, am I deserving or in need of people's money? Am I willing to put the effort in? Will the pressure make me want to stop drawing? Shouldn't I just draw for myself? How do I approach new challenges such as networking?

All I know right now is that I would like to make some money on the side with my art, and I primarily want to draw my comic.

Right now though I'm not sure what taking your art more seriously 'looks like'. And I still don't have a clear goal with steps I can strive towards in mind. So I wanted to ask here first. Is there a day you decided to take your art more seriously? Or is it something that happened over time? What steps did you take? What challenges did you face? I want to know.

Good questions.

I´m a musician and I do illustration commissions and I teach kids how to draw.

I started relearning how to draw at the age of 40 and I set myself the goal to
learn and train for 10 years and then start my printed comic series at the age
of 50. I´m 8,5 years in the training. I drew every day and I´m learning and training
every day. I set myself art goals what I want to be good at and I also know what
I will have to skip because it takes too much time. The production of my comic
series will start in may 2025. That´s how serious I am about it
