Will getting too much hate/backlash stop you from continuing your comic?

If you received a lot of hate messages and d3ath threats; will they interfere with your work?

I have a novel, not a comic, but I don't think it would. It might seriously impede my progress for a while because of stress and anxiety, but in the end, writing is my passion, so I can't do with out it.

I've never received death threats but I have received hate comments before, fortunately never for my comic but you could say a potential political artwork. Of course, I've never perceived it as political but some argue it's a representation of what I stood for. Despite being in the heart of it it never actually discouraged me from drawing, it only made me wish my voice wasn't so loud then maybe people wouldn't be so up on my throat. And so I went on and off with my social media presence even after people stopped caring about my situation. If anything, it makes me wanna quit social media. Haha!

I love my art and I would never stop drawing just because someone told me to get lost. I'm standing strong and firm.

It’s scary to think about because my comic book confronts darker topics. But true art sparks discussions which is what I want out of this story. Negativity wouldn’t stop me because I don’t want everyone to have the same opinions.

Without going into too much detail, this happened to a creator whose works I have read. Fortunately the person in question was banned, their messages were problematic.

It really doesn't matter. Just delete the messages and move on. You will not meet these people in real life, they will never confront you, and their opinion shouldn't matter to you. The internet is full of keyboard warriors, don't let it bother you.

I expect it to some degree; there are parts of my comic that will probably be controversial, lol. It would take some pretty severe backlash to get me to stop entirely, which I don't really expect to happen tbh.

That depends. If the reason I got massive hate and DTs is that I made a terrible mistake, I'll start by apologizing to everyone who got offended and decided to stop continuing my work.
Otherwise, I don't really care! Hate me all you want, you're just adding engagement to my work.

The question I gotta ask is "what are you DOING to receive hate/backlash/death threats"? I dont know, maybe it's just me, but I have a certain way I carry myself...I'll respond to comments(if I feel like it), but I try to keep it professional; the minute someone goes off the rails I just nix it and dont respond. I don't have time to go back and forth with a person on decisions I'm making about MY material...if they want something done differently, maybe they should create their own.

No.. and that shouldn't stop you from enjoying what you're doing. The problem is that person and not you. Best all, don't respond to them. Just ignore them. It's the best way forward.. don't let them get to your head.

I am going to be honest. I mostly use social media to look at photos of dolls and weird things people find at the thrift store. I always feel like I am out of the loop when it comes to internet drama in general. I probably won't even realize there was a backlash.

I have got a few hateful comments on my work, but I noticed it tends to be from people who are obviously a minor. I usually just delete the comment.

I encourage people to let me know. The thing about criticism is that it might seem mean spirited, but it's advice. If something sucks, I wanna know because ultimately I love you guys and want to entertain you with cool drawings. (It's a labor of love) If I make spelling mistakes lol which is pretty often probably, I'd wanna know. (But death threats aren't cool.)

I'm in my 40s. I used to get alot of that in highschool when Id work on my ideas for my manga or simple short stories. Either drawn or written. Due to the school I went to. Its views and my views clashed alot. At least my English Writers Craft teacher encouraged me to continue. He was like.. "If they dont like it, they dont have to look at it or read it."
But he was also into horror and mystery so to him it was really neat.

Currently Ive only gotten a few snide remarks but I remove them. Mostly on Webtoons. I move on. Most of my viewers comments (if you check thier profiles on Comic Fury, Tapas, etc) seem to not be someone, Id assume would like my storyline and characters. Due to their beliefs and views. But they seem to like it ALOT.

Pfft, nah. True, I hadn't gotten any yet, but seriously. "I hate your comic so much I threaten death upon you" Really? Are people that dissociated? Probably a child wrote that or an adult who thinks like a child. I say let them talk crap, they can't do anything about you and your work.

On a different note, tho, a little critique on my part would pique my interest, not to rethink everything I'm doing, cause it's done, it's posted--but that someone else cares enough to give helpful feedback, and I love that about people! I don't get much of that either (besides text size, i get it XD), so I assume I'm doing the right thing art-wise.
