Tapas Ad Revenue Versus Webtoon Ad Beta Program

Hey, guys!

So at long last, I reached 100 subscribers to turn on the Ad Revenue option with Tapas.

I’m finding breaking the 40,000 pages views in Webtoon to unlock their Ad Beta to be extremely difficult.

For those of you who have unlocked one or both, what has your experience been like? Have you tried concerting your efforts more into one platform over the other? Do you have suggestions on how to get the Ad Beta program unlocked on Webtoon (I feel like Webtoon is particularly flooded with creators, getting new subscribers and page views are like pulling teeth, so any advice helps)?

Thumbnail is really important when it comes to webtoon, and people are more interested in decent art. Story is what keeps readers staying, and the art is what brings them in.

Also, the ad revenue program for webtoon is only until the end of summer I think, so if aren't able to get to at least 20,000 views by now, you might not be able to unlock it in time. Personally, I was promoted on the webtoon front page, so I was able to get a ton of viewers, but it's hard to maintain everything.

Ad revenue on Tapas is teeeeeeny tiny. I have a grand total of $0.01 after having had in unlocked for a couple of months now. I'm not expecting anything to ever come of monetisation here.

WEBTOON is better, but those pageview expectations are wild. Apparently once you unlock it, and if you have regular enough viewership to keep it unlocked, it's decent. (Insofar as it's dollars, not pennies.) But clearing those initial numbers is extremely hard.

Patreon is ever your best bet for monetisation. Having three patrons at 500 subs is not bad at all, and your tiers are nice and simple, so keep pushing that!

Both programs have low output if you're small time, so I suggest investing in stuff like a Patreon, or setting ink goals instead.
Also, if you're on Webtoons ad program, you're also going to be more heavily censored if your work features certain types of content the site doesn't find suitable.

Ads are also pretty invasive and you don't know what kinds of products or sites will be put on your comic, so I tend to avoid them.

There's plenty of other ways to make money with your comics tho!
