Hello friends and fellow Tapastic creators. My name is Jonny Aleksey (creating Jonny Comic and Valve Comic) and last April/May I hosted a little art event based around alternate universes. Basically I had five general ideas of what style each universe would have and I would randomly give each participate one of those styles. They would then have about a month to redesign their characters to fit that style. You can look at the gallery here.
With my favorite holiday coming up, I thought it would great to bring this back with a Halloween twist.. This time it will be classic movie monsters. I will have five types of monsters and you (the participate) will randomly get one. Which ever you get you will redesign your character(s) to fit that monster. Simple stuff.
Here's the list of monster with brief descriptions:
Vampires:
Probably the most well known of the classic monsters, vampires are undead beings that drink the blood of the living. They can shape shift into bats, run at incredible speeds, and can't be seen in mirror. (I repeat, they DO NOT SPARKLE! That's stupid.) There are many interpretations of the vampire, so don't feel limited to the Dracula cape and cowl, though it is a cool look.
Frankenstein's Monster:
A lot of people have tried to adapt the Mary Shelly novel, the most famous one being the 1931 Universal pic. The monster typically is seen in rags, with multiple stitches across his body, and a very decaying skin. If you get this one it might be best to use two characters: one for the monster and one for Dr. Frankenstein him(or her)self.
Were-Wolves:
My personal favorite monster, the were-wolf is a man who changes into a horrible wolf-like beast at night (usually under a full moon). Some stories have the person literally transform into a wolf, but I personally find this approach boring. It's much more interesting to make a wolf/man hybrid. Up on two legs yet with a wolf's claws and mouth. A transformation scene might be a cool way to approach this too.
Zombies:
What is there to say about zombies? They're current the most popular monster in the world. They eat people and are not truly living. How dead to make them is the question. Did they just turn or have they been decaying for some time now? It will be interesting to see how far you can go while still having the look/feel of your character.
Slasher Killers:
Ah, the 80's. You like Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street? Then this is for YOU! Slasher killers always have a concealing mask and a preferred sharp weapon of choice (no guns here). You can take inspiration from any of the famous slashers of the 1980's and early 90's, giving your character their costumes and weapons. You can also try your hand at making a unique look with a unique weapon. As long as it's not a firearm you're good.
Some things to think about:
A.) Since this is Halloween, GORE OUT. Go as messed up as you'd like. Fill the screen with blood!!! NO MERCY!!!
B.) While backgrounds and extras are not mandatory, they would spice up your image
C.) Make sure your character is still recognizable.
D.) Both PNG's and JPEG's are welcome, but I prefer PNG's. Also, make sure your image fits Tapastic's preferences (940px height)
E.) Their were some late entries for my last event. If you feel you won't be able to finish your pick in time, no worries. I will update the gallery for at least 2 weeks after deadline.
To sign up, post your name and comic (with links to both) below. Though everyone will be accepted, I'd prefer if you had at least 5 subscribers and a "main character" if you're doing gag-a-day's.
When you finish you're image, email it to me at jonnyalekseywashere@gmail.com Make sure to write in the e-mail your name, comic name, and which monster you got.
Sign ups will be open from 9/21 to 10/02.
I will post here who got what on 10/04.
The Gallery will go up live on a separate forum post on 10/30, so try to send it to me before then.
