How do you guys feel about a 115-panel first episode action & adventure & magic webtoon? I'm doing it for certain reasons and one is because it's my first impression on the fans/audience and I didn't want to finish the episode on a low bad note, it should have decent artwork.

What's stopping you from breaking it up into several sections and uploading several episodes in one go?

I dont want to disappoint in the first. I made it a certain way so it'd flow and have its build up moments and climax and ect. If i cut it it would look as a boring first episode or incomplete in my eyes because if it was me id want entertainment each episode.

The next episodes will be the average numbered panels tho.

Well then I think you have your answer right? You do you, your perspective is what'll make your story unique right?

If it's important to you to be really sure how it lands, show your roughs/thumbs/sketches to a test audience and get their feedback.

It'd depend on your comic, but I can say that as a reader, I'm not usually a fan of 100+ panel long first episodes on webtoon. Reaching the end of the scroll and clicking to the next page gives me a second to breathe, digest what I just read, and decide if I like it enough to subscribe. If I have to wait too long to get there, I start skimming and feeling antsy. When I already know I love a series, I appreciate long updates, but for an introduction, I prefer three separate episodes.

Also consider that after the third episode, readers will get a pop-up asking if they want to subscribe. That's why so many comics begin with three complete episodes, then go forward from there with regular single episode updates per chosen period of time.

But this is a very slight preference of mine; I don't have a strong opinion either way. And either way, you know your work and what you wish to accomplish with it best.

I agree with this. What seems to be considered 'best practice' for launching a new series, especially on webtoon, is to upload three episodes, but upload them all at once. Together, the three provide a really engaging entry into the series, and alone, they're more representative of the length future episodes are planned to will be.

Even Webtoon themselves recommend launching that way, something about it must really work.

Is that going to be the norm or just for the first issue? If it's the norm, good luck. That's a lot of drawing. My thinking is breaking it up and doing it weekly. A high panel count is great but if you can only publish monthly, you will get lost in the shuffle.

I have a hard enough time trying to fit 30 panels into the MB limit over on webtoons so good luck? (remember that if you want it to look good on phone, you need to upload PNG. If you uplad JPG it will look like garbo on uploading becuase WT compresses really weird on JPGS) It'd be better to plan for it to be 3 updates.

Like my first 3 updates are longer, and Ididn't know people were releasing those all at once so I did em spaced out, and it was fine. I think what's most important is that the hook is there on that first update, and every last panel makes them really eager to click "next"

My first webtoon episode was around 50-60 panels and I had a really hard time fitting it to the 20MB limit on webtoon.

I could only have the first and last files be png and the other jpeg which lowered the quality (especially the case if you use gradients) so I would advise splitting this episode into 3 since readers get asked if they want to subscribe on the third episode and it'll allow you for more high quality files.

I think having longer first episodes can be good in establishing a lot, but 115 is quite long, even by originals standards. It can be done of course, but it will take longer to get the subscribe prompt on the third episode and some readers just aren't that patient.

If the episode has "decent artwork" and is a "action & adventure & magic" genre, meaning there's lot of big, colorful panels, there's hiiiigh chance you won't be able to upload it in full anyway. Canvas creators are limited to 20MB and 100 sliced images, while Originals can upload more. And while JPEGs may have lower file sizes, it may look like shit on mobile because Webtoon doesn't like JPEGs that much.

My first episode was 80 panels long before I realized I couldn't fit the upload limit and ended up splitting the episode into two parts.

Size limits aside, it seems overwhelming to read. Especially since there's no indication how long it is if you place it all in one episode. When I pick up a book or a comic to read, I check the number of pages or episodes. So I know if I can read it with morning coffee or it requires more time off.

I mean, honestly I'd split it into more episodes just because it's convenient to have a buffer. I saw a bunch of people recommend having a nice amount of episodes prepared in advance, so you can maintain constant uploads while not putting too much pressure on yourself.

It will only be for the first issue. But my artists are telling me I have to break it up so it will probably be that way on websites that doesn't allow a lot of panels.
