1. Some of their rules aren't clear enough for me.

You fully understand and agree that for the effective use of resources, if you have not created any work within [ 60 ] days after registration or the work hasn’t been approved, MangaToon reserves the right to delete your author account and anything published under it without further notice.

What does it mean exactly? If I'll publish something and then go to the hiatus for more than 60 days, will my work survive?

The authors shall observe the following provisions when publishing and uploading the contents of the work. The following contents are forbidden in the works:

...

(3) Obscene and violent content

ᆞ MangaToon judges that too many body parts are exposed, which is harmful to minors.

ᆞ Direct description of sexual content

ᆞ Specific, realistic descriptions and beautification of sexual crimes, including violations of ethical behaviors recognized by society, such as incest, temptation, mandatory content

ᆞ Sexually explicit conversations or looking for sexual objects, sexual transactions

ᆞ Promote or disseminate the content of obscene information or weathered places

ᆞ pornographic materials

ᆞ violent content

Does anyone know, how much is allowed here? Is my comics too much for them (if you read it)?

2. Is there any sense in posting not-manga-style comics at this platform at all?

I would be grateful if anyone will manage to answer these questions.

i think what they mean by the first one is, dont register... then go on hiatus imediately cause from what i heard, they actually look your comic up and check the upload frequency on other sites... they'll also ask you why your posting there aparently...

The "Obscene and violent content" reads more like "anything we don't like"

  • "Judges that too many body parts are exposed" doesn't provide any further definition, meaning if you have a character a tanktop and shorts, they can cite this rule to take action.

  • What is "violations of ethical behavior"? That could be something as simple as telling a lie. Especially since they list "temptation" alongside incest. That is a HUGE range.

  • "Weathered places"??? I do hope that's some really weird translation issue otherwise......what?

  • "Violent content." What is the limit? Someone getting slapped is violent.

Honestly, it sounds like they're angling to have only gentle romance or slice-of-life stories.

Ever heard of "Tap Water Pollution" ?

If this this allowed, everything else is fair game lol.
Also interesting observation:
I think in chapter 3, the mermaid one. On WebComics they censor the "baby" scene and blur out the woman screaming face. But keep a suggestive page of the guy assaulting the woman.

In Mangatoons, the page of him assaulting her is completely removed, but nothing else is censored.

But I'll say this general rule of thumb regardless of platform:
If your comic is popular enough with a huge following, you can get away with a lot of stuff where others will be censored for less, lol.

ok usually i'm ok with gore and assult in fiction but somehow... THAT COMIC fucking bothered the shit out of me....

Edit: WHY DID I GO BACK AND LOOK AT IT AGAIN?!

Anyone know if it's worth doing it?

...I'm already on 3 not sure if I can do another...

Don't you only need to make the content once and push the updates to the platforms?

We have to make adjustments to size and such plus keeping track since web app wants its stuff earlier and there is the fact that we try to keep up and talk to the fans that comment on all the platforms.

It's not that simple. Each platform has different formats and limits. For example, webtoon has width limits and won't do PNG (the default I save my comic in). So they require special formatting every time. Then some require thumbnails, each with different limits, and you can't just add your comic page in. Each platform has a different method of posting. And if you queue up batches instead of doing 1-by-1, you need to track which one goes where. Some have different tagging systems, too.

It's time consuming to make it all decent in the end.

Then there's the question of how are you promoting each platform? Are you cross-linking everything so people can read on their preferred site? Are you participating in the communities to build your visibility? And if you're not promoting it for that platform.....why post there? You'll be drowned out by everyone else's content and it won't be worth the effort to keep posting there.

i got a pass from Mangatoon. its not a strict as webcomicsapp i dont think

ok how long does it take for them to post after passing?... or is passing a bad thing... like they passed you by?

from what i read, its for advertisement within the website or social media. (tapas has the same rule)

and they have the right to remove your content without warning.

Yes, but that's another thing. I don't think Tapas owns the right to print your work etc without informing you.

well the only one i know for sure thats on there is @ghostmaya so i guess ask them about that? (if they even know?)

I just started just last week so I don't have any clue about that app yet.

When I went to "Edit comic info" I was told to check some boxes then I was asked to give my my "full name" which will be used as my digital signature and I gave them my penname I use on webtoon instead of my real name because
I wasn't sure if they wanted my penname or my real name.
Has anyone else done the same?
