Like many here, I grew up on Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and the Far Side!
Once I got a bit older, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac became huge inspirations to me.
(I was a bit of an edgelord teenager, though Fullmetal Alchemist remains one of my favorites to this day.)
In the case of FMA, I appreciated the expressiveness and quality of writing for the entire series. It blended comedy, fantasy, horror, and science fiction elements almost seamlessly.
In the case of JTHM, I was drawn to the visually unique angular artwork and heavy inking. For a while, I found myself trying to emulate aspects of it, even. (I've mostly moved on from this style, but I still enjoy heavy inking in some of my work.)
While I've always enjoyed writing and making comics, those were some of the first comics to really inspire me to pursue comic making as a more serious hobby. (And, maybe someday as I continue to learn and get better, a full time job. Dream big I guess hahaha.)
